I have already taken over 150 pics this week of them and will be photographing again tonight. Some incredible patterns have been created in the spheres.
Very cool project, Brucemir. I'm looking forward to see the photos so much. I usually take 1-4 paintings per a night trip including test shots. It takes time to prepare stuff, get to place, get all stuff ready, find composition, make it safe and painting. In addition my camera process it about 10 - 15 minutes every shot, so considering I've to wake up in the morning for my job during week, not much time for many shots. Anyway this friday I've had very nice composition, but the rain and strong wind came, so it was fast escape before I took any usable photo. I just got rain in camera lens during the exposure, so no way... But I will return and maybe with my new 473 nm laser as I've found great use of it in this artwork.

So far I've just made some test shots for my new project. But I need to develop film on monday to analyze the test results.

Hey Radim,
I used to set up all of my stuff in my garage , including black curtains every Thursday and Friday, and photograph for a few hours Friday night and have to take everything apart and put it away (which would take an hour) since I (and the wifey) needed my garage on the weekends. So I got to photograph lasers once a week. When we sold our townhouse and bought another house, one stipulation was for me to get room dedicated to my photography. Not only did I get my room but half of a finished basement which is my man cave. Mostly anything I need while photographing is within 20 feet. Now that whatever I have set up in my room can stay for as long as I want it to explore. I usually photograph 4 days a week totaling 100-150 shots depending. And on Saturday morning I do all of my computer work, such as minor photo editing , the "Photobucket" thing preparing 25 shots or so in the language that is needed to post, my Flickr page , and getting them onto my hard drives and ipad. Thats about 3 hours every Saturday. I am able to explore photographing lasers, analyze what I have photographed in detail and tweak camera settings, mirror and glass placement, etc and work on an idea for weeks at a time if need be. Last night, after analyzing what I had photographed in the previous week, I repositioned all of the glassware, switched out lasers, and added some mirrors and diffraction gratings, but did not turn on my camera . All of the lasers, slinky, glassware are positioned perfectly. All I have to do when I get home from work all I have to do is turn of the fog machine and some lasers and I am photographing within 5 minutes.

Anyway here are a few pics of the flourescent tube thing and what I just starting working on now, the Slinky and piece of screen.

Bruce, what better way to start the new week than by looking at some of your latest 'Photonic Fantasies', looking forward to more!
I can't pinpoint exactly why, but I really like your 4th photo, maybe it's the rectangular geometry; the 2nd photo makes me think of a smiling golden faced alien, or maybe the eye of a fly with all its segments.

and for sharing!

Hi, Bruce,

These pics remind me some futuristic spaceship energy management, I'm just not sure if this is for star system destroying weapon or warp drive. Great artworks, keep them coming. I'm affraid I cannot rep you yet - some spreading is needed.

Definitely it is great to have own room, to prepare everything and keep it there ready. I've one in cellar, which is just waiting till I put my stuff here. I just need to consider it carefully and plan it, it should be a lab in past, but now I'll combine it with laser studio - I even have a lot of ideas for indoor laserpainitng, just the time is needed... For outdoor shooting I of course cannot leave the stuff there, but it is just the "tax" for having outdoor shots (maybe I'll take my tent to overnight in the forest in summer). Also it is not possible to do such a complex setups as you do as I've to take care about safety (especially because of aircrafts) and also to keep the scene pure of any non natural stands for optics etc. Quite hard sometimes to hide tripod with laser for example. I do not see these disturbing in your art as I perceive it as part of it showing various optics and its behaviour. I just have a different approach. And regarding post production - I agree - great source of information as you can learn from mistakes and do it better. I do it the same way, sometimes I just realize the pic I took is crap and I need to get it better - usually when something goes wrong - like too much/or too little light in some areas, dirt on lens or sensor etc. Well, regarding dust it is always there, just if it is too much I have to do something with it, but in reasonable level I consider it as a part of real digital photo. All this takes some time, but the final artwork is worth every second spent.

Anyway, I've just made some first version (like v0.1) of RGB/wavelength color mixing model in Excel (the easiest SW at the moment - as I can copy various combinations and compare) to plan color combinations. It seems to work, but I need to make it a nice table. I was doing also some test shots of new effect yesterday to find best way of incorporationg it into coming artwork. So, even this counts to the process.

Hey Guys, Thanks!!

Radim - In most of my shots the stands, clamps, and whatever else I am using to hold everything together are visible by design. Personally I like seeing all of the stuff in the photos as I will compose with that in mind. I will always take shots more zoomed in hide all of that stuff as much as possible too so I will always have both versions. And when using my 8mm fisheye, everything is in the pic and I have to be careful and make sure I am 100% behind the camera or part of my body will be in the side of the photo.

I photographed three different sets over three weeks using the tubes last month. When putting the tubes behind the glass spheres, amazing pastel colors would appear in very weird shapes because of the tubes being lit up by lasers.

WOW your photos are real works of art !!!.

first to the OP-- Bowtieguy is about to get one & will do a complete review..
when the 1st Jetlasers 473 pro-ple lasers were offered they were underspec UNTIL completely warmed up- which took a lot of time-& the host was quite warm-- so in light of that-- looks like a long duty cycle needs to happen to get full power- kinda a conflict IMO..(BTW its 'Jetlasers'-not Jet laser)

IFyou want a better deal--give me a group order-pay JL but have them ALL shipped to me in Tx(should be at no cost to us if the order is large enough) and I will reship cheaper and test them for you..
$38 vs $<15--AND if you send me $90 I will include a matching JL 10X BE for Pro PL-E (not the mini--its new& I have not yet seen one)
The Mini BE is cheaper (see price at JL.org) if wanted before order is placed you will at least get cheaper shipping on it.
I also can so a seperate GroupBuy just for the JL mini BEs--let me know.

hak
also keep in mind that JL has the very best customer support.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but those are some very nice photos, as usual. Just wanted to express my approval.

^Interesting info. Thanks for posting this. It reminds me of my 593.5nm penlaser which works the best after the host gets warm to the touch. While cold it modehops, stops lasing entirely and generally works like crap.
