I propose we start a junk box.

I started a junkbox (not associated with this forum) but it became 'lost' after only a few people. I even put a small HeNe tube in there I agree that the only smart way to do it would be to follow the 4hv model like everyone else has agreed upon.

Is there really already a junkbox started by the vets? (sarcasm in text is hard to get)

There shouldn't be pre-built lasers in there in the first place.

It only makes it harder for those in countries with (very harsh) restrictions.

NZ and Oz should have their own box anyway. Just because they're weird.... :san: (So much sarcasm I couldn't fit it on this page!!!!! Seriously, you guys are alright in my eyes!)

Problematic logistics here to arrange. See if Cold will do a section, (I might not be inclined if I were in charge), otherwise it's down to us to organise and police, and for anything of value that noone owns, but goes missing... I can see that being a big problem at some point whatever the group dynamic and trust is.

If it helps, I have stuff, and build stuff. I have access to a lathe, imagination and diodes, (other stuff too). The rest of it comes from other people but I know how to pull sh*t together so if you're ever stuck for anything then drop me a line... I may be able to help.

no, not joking.

I don't know if you have custom offices bad like the Italian ones, but here, they scan anything ..... and, all the times that the package content something that they don't understand, or if the content just look to have a value different from the declared one, they wait randomly from 10 to 20 days, indicatively, then send a mail to the receiver (not to the sender) asking what the package content, what is the value, a copy of your ID documents, a commercial invoice proving the declarations, or a declaration of responsability that certify that the items are for personal use, copy of the transaction pages, if you buyed it through internet .....

And also, some package "get lost in transit" through our custom office, also if you send them all the documents that they ask you.

And yes, if you're wondering, all this happened to me personally, more than one time.

(not speaking about our postal system, that for ship a 5Kg package outside the country, ask me around 100$ )

Some countries, perhaps, just don't want that their inhabitants may have some freedom .....

I've heard stories, Italy's postal and customs services leave much to be desired.

It has nothing to do with being Closed Minded...
There is already a "junk box project"...

It has to do with the logistics... will you take on the responsibility of
tracking the package and making sure the package gets shipped to
the next person in a timely manner...:thinking:

If you want to take on that job... no-one will stop you from sending a
package to anyone...:beer:

You do realize that you can post a Want To Trade (WTT) in the B/S/T board at any time, dontcha?

Of course that would require YOU to do your own work for it.

We discovered very quickly that any international shipping cost outstripped the value of what people were willing to put into a box,
