Hi guys...

So I have a very specific set of needs in a laser (preferably a pointer) and i'm hoping someone in the forum might know what fits the bill...

It's for a lumia wheel, which I like to leave running for hours at a time (I find the effect relaxing). So my laser needs to be...

- Bright, since it is being defracted and scattered by the lumia wheel. A 5mw green is just about bright enough when the batteries are fresh, but after they start to weaken the light output drops, so I figure the equivalent brightness of 15mw green would be just right

- A true "on" switch that doesn't have to be held down.

- Runs on AA, AAA or cr123A batteries (so I can always have a fresh set charged and ready to go )

- Something that can handle running for hours at a time and won't overheat or be damaged by a long run cycle

Colors i'm most interested in are green, blue, purple and yellow.

If you know of a laser that meets all these criteria, please speak up!! I'm having trouble just finding ones with a true "on" switch!

Thanks...

I really dont think a off the shelf laser meets all of those. Try looking up the white fusion kit. Thats will get the colors you want.

There aren't many laser pointers with an unlimited duty cycle.
What you really want is a lab laser that you can just plug into the wall and leave running for as long as you want.
Wicked's S3 series has an unlimited duty cycle, and you can leave the lasers on until the battery dies and they barely get warm.
Other than buying a +$300 spyder from Wicked, a good bet is to get a lab laser like this one:

From Aixiz is only 15mW and can be run for hours. Found here for $40: AixiZ

That makes sense, thanks for the suggestion!

Can you send me a link to whatever I would need to power it? I'm very green (hah hah) when it comes to electronics, so it's not immediately obvious to me...

On a side note, up to now I have been using a cheap 5mw green pointer with the button taped down to run my lumia show, and I just let it go until the batteries drain (maybe 2 hours) and it doesn't seem to have harmed the laser.

Am I just getting lucky? What SHOULD happen if I tape down the power button and force a long duty cycle?

Is it working because the laser is low power?

And speaking of WL's Spyder series, they tell me my Arctic will be shipping next week... you're saying I could leave THAT on all night and it would be ok? Obviously I'd be using it on a very reduced power setting... I don't want to melt my lumia wheel... or my eyes :-(

Ok but see I don't WANT to build my own. I have no skills, tools or desire. I freely admit that.

But I'd be happy to make someone on the forum glad that THEY have the skills, tools and desire by PAYING them to build one or more custom modules for me.

I figure there has got to be at least ONE enterprising hobbyist out there who says "the hell with doing it all for fun, I want money!"

I'm not going to make anyone rich, but it will probably be enough to fund a new laser :)

Feel free to PM me...
