I have had my 445 for a bit now, had to do some minor repairs etc. I always thought that the Aixiz module was something that just held the diode, while the lens screwed into the heatsink and focused the beam. Now I see that Aixiz modules have focusing adapters. What is the point of these, and are they a replacment for the glass lens?

Sorry is this was a stupid question.

Not sure I understand the question. Aixiz modules are two part 12mm housings. One with a socket that the diode is pressed into, and the other side threaded for M9X.5 threaded lenses. The back half just threads on the main part. They usually come with a spring, acrylic lens assembly, and a knurled focus ring.

The lens does not screw into the heatsink. The lens screws into the front end of the aixiz module and then the module is attached to the HS via a set screw.

The picture that qumefox posted shows the AixiZ focus ring at the front of the lens...

This is a finger grip focus adapter that lets you turn the lens for focusing...

Custom focus adapters are simply larger focus rings that take the place of the small AixiZ focus ring.

They can be custom fit for a specific host, etc...

btw the custom focus adapters that Jay and others make are super and work very well- with 12x AND 445 They are great and save burnt fingertips.

In the picture posted above it fits into the part to the right of the spring in the disassembled view, [EDIT: good call bluuray!]. It is press fit into this part from the right hand side. You can see a demonstration of how to fit the diode in the, "I Want to Build a Laser", link found in my sig. Look through the first post until you see a link mentioning, "Harvesting an LOC", (or something similar). This will show you the way to, 'harvest', and install an LOC diode. The steps for installation are the same for any 5.6mm diode that we use.

You could also invest in a diode press tool from Flaminpyro. A very good tool!

Thanks guys! This is exactly what I needed. I was trying to fit it int from the other side, cram it into the whole in the heat sink, and various other things. Thanks.
