I can't remove the pill from host

Hey everyone, I'm back with more problems. ;) I put together a Jayrob SS CR2 build today, and started it up. Ooh pretty colors. After a few minutes of burning stuff, it suddenly turned off (I'm praying it didn't die...). I tried switching batteries, and that didn't help. I started unscrewing the pill which was glued to the heatsink out of the host by pushing out on the lens threading and twisting. Suddenly, the bond between the heatsink and the pill broke. Now I can't twist it out the way I was. I'd have to get a firm hold of the bottom of the pill to turn that out. I can't even budge it by pushing on it with my finger or anything I can find around the house. This thing is stuck in the threading really firmly. I've been working at this for literally 4 hours straight, and now I'm really desperate. :can: Does anyone have any ideas?

what the hell glue?

This is a job-a-la Kenom / Kipkay ...

Its highly possible that the diode died from ESD,overheat.

Haha that made my day a little better. My soldering iron died (RIP POS Radioshack soldering iron :cryyy:) and all I had to do was solder the heatsink to the pill... I was impatient... :D Oh, but great news! I managed to get the laser to work by pushing the bottom half of the host to the top half without screwing it in. I just have to hold the 2 halves together whenever I want to turn it on. Now at least I know the diode's alive. I can't afford to blow another one of those 12x blu-rays! I still have no idea how I'm going to unscrew this thing so I can reglue (haha ) it together.

edit: Kipkay wouldn't use glue; he'd use honey (purchased on his website). It makes your laser smell good.

@Silvershot That's a really good possible explanation. It would also explain why it works now when I push the two halves together. Maybe when pushing them together tight, the spring can then make contact.

I still have to figure out how to unscrew this. I'm hoping I won't have to do anything drastic...

Send it back to Jayrob. He'll likely be able to help out. I know he wouldn't have used glue but he knows his builds. May cost you but, hey...

Seriously though, glue? Never make a DIY build permanent like this, would be my advice.

Maybe post some photos?

Good luck with it.

I have the same Jayrob build and he didn't use glue in mine. In order to get the heatsink/pill out unscrew the lens, the I use my ring finger on the front and thumb on the pill on the inside and squeeze the two together and turn

Thanks for all of your advice/warnings against glue... Jayrob didn't use any glue by the way. The only part I used glue on was the bond between the pill and the heatsink because I was having trouble getting the two soldered together and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Before I glued the two together, I just had them sit next to each other, and it worked fine.

I haven't been able to get the heatsink and pill out of the host. There's just a little kink in the threading that I can't get it past. I have been able to get it up back out of that kink to its original position (thanks Kevlar).

edit: It does work too. I don't know what was going on before. o_O

I had the same problem with my pocket mini and found out it was the spring, so I took the tail switch apart, and screw everything again and bam it worked. i have to do it again though since it seems to not make good contact again. I think you are facing the same problem bud. Otherwise, instant turn off of the laser is a bit strange.

I didn't even do anything to fix the spring. I just tried to unscrew the pill/heatsink, failed, put it back, and turned it on. It suddenly worked, even though I didn't do anything to fix it... It's really really weird.

on a build i did, i had the opposite spring problem. i have a dorcy led that uses a 3aaa cartridge. i took that out and put in a 18650. well the 18650 is longer and puts too much pressure on the spring. so i had to cut it.

so don't cut until you know that that is indeed the problem.

There's just a little kink in the threading that I can't get it past.

I have the same thing with mine, (cheap threads I guess) but if I squeeze the pill and heatsink together really tight and turn the barrel back and forth (kinda wiggle it) I can get it past the kink.
