Well, I hoped that image would help me win the contest, especially when people see how much time I put into it! Heh. I hope it turns out as well as I thought it would (but drivers never do the first time around!).

We'll see. Luckily it's the forum which is voting not me :D I'm sure there are quite a few members who will appreciate the effort and the design. I'm hoping that all the designs get built eventually just because of the interest generated here. 2 designs have a chance to win and enter the Battle Royale. I'll begin announcing our Celebrity Judges tomorrow :shhh:

Wolfy you have me intrigued. What are all those six pin chips? At first glance it looks like some kind of digitally operated resistor selector? Probably way off.

Here is the 12x amc7135 board for WBS's laser!

Hey, mine's orderly! Just looks cluttered is all. I know where everything goes!

Ben - the six pin chips are what are supposedly called "analog switches." I feed them high, they switch one way. I feel them low, they switch the other way. It's a really neat chip. Makes for an easy, simple to use DAC. This driver will have 8 operating modes (off state and then seven on states). The DIP16 is simply a binary counter, counts up when one rail is pulsed, counts down when another rail is pulsed. Literally, I am doing my first digital work! I am having my counter output a digital number (of the form 000 to 111), where 000 corresponds to off and 111 corresponds to maximum current. Then, I feed each of those bits into the DAC and it converts it to a FB voltage ^_^

Sounds awesome! I was almost right haha. Are you going to use a rotary encoder for the counters input?

Nope! Just two buttons. One for up, one for down. The phaser comes with two buttons, after all!

So good news - measured the phaser and there SHOULD be room for the diode, driver, and still 50mm for the lens. In fact, the red tip is about 50mm from a bit of the way inside the front of the phaser, so it'll work perfectly! I'll just have to bore a hole big enough for the lens. How big are they, anyone know?

The lens is 1/2" in diameter. Not sure about how big the beam is though. I want to say less than 10mm though.
