Solder up 3 lm317s in parallel and use the 0.6 ohm. Should work if you resistor is big enough. You should be using like 10W for this. (If you have a few resistors in parallel to get 0.6 that would be better)

I feel like a fool. This insults my inteligence. How would one wire an lm317 in parallel with another?

I could be wrong BUT.....

Run three wires from one battery output (one to each LM317 input). Then have your resistors wired up on each one. And then run three wires from each LM317 output to single diode inout?

I suck at electronics....so if I am wrong let me know.

To put them in parallel, just connect the first pin on all of them together, the second pin on all of them together, and the third ;) Then just treat it like one big LM317.

Your way would work, but it would require three resistors instead of one. You could instead just wire up the battery to all three of the LM317 inputs (equivalent to connecting the LM317 inputs, like I said), then connect the LM317 outputs (equivalent to having them all wired to the diode output). However, the only difference is that you are putting a resistor between the output and adjust on each one, whereas you could use a resistor of 1/3 the value to put between all of the adjust pins and the output pins.

Mine is so simple compared to these!

Although I have strict plans to make this my unique MS red build. So it's cool to me, might just have to fund it 100% :p

All depends on the forum Bloom. The MS is a great host and it's custom. Plenty of time too :thinking: You might come up with something to push your design ahead ;)

I was just thinking... I have two spare of these boards. I could potentially order parts for them and order two more of these phasers if anyone was interested in a limited kit (I kind of want to get this type of driver out there ^_^).

Anyway, I figure I'll take care of that after the contest. Just wanted to give everyone the possibility of they are interested.

For this C-mount red project, expensive, at very least. ;)

Its much more easier and cheap to implement soft start on a linear driver capable of 5A. However, efficiencies are soooo low...

Yes, it's expensive, that's why I thought this contest would be cool. There are so many talented members with great ideas. A small opportunity to maybe build with an amazing new diode and at least save on that cost. Some neat diodes popping up. The 473's that BloomPyle found are pretty neat too. I like StyroPyro's pen host build.

I'm pretty excited about Lazeerer's 5W Reds though :)

This is my driver its a <75% efficent buckdriver its ready to do up to 15A and has an input for PWM which I'll use for an frequency adjustable strobe

In my configuration for the 650nm c-mount Its output is adjustable from 0 to >>>6.5A<<<[:eg:nothin else but full power] with a fader potentiometer

I've just ordered 3 pbcs of it at oshpark and parts from digikey

Once its fully assembled I'll test it with an ozilloscope and with a high power red led (Pt-120 :thanks: DTR) as test load

I'll will also order my battery voltage control led circuit and temperature control circuit tomorrow

My host design I'm doing with Spaceclaim (thanks to my dad bought it for his work :)) Its nearly finished so I think I can post the rendered model of it here on monday (full weekend plans :D)

Good job doing your own design .. but it doesn't really look like it's going to handle the current you're claiming. You're aware that a regular via can only safely handle around 500mA, right?

500ma good to know But anyway I already changed it :na: to be honest this was an early design I was just so excited that I posted it just after connecting everything before I checked everything and made a drc :shhh:
