G'day every one, came across this so called the "Hybrid Pulsed Laser Diode with Integrated Driver Stage 850nm 14 W-OSRAM" did a google search didn't find much info, wasn't sure what category it belonged to here, so i will just ask if any one would have more information on what this thing exactly is? does it just give a huge amount of light output? or…. i don't really know. hope you guys can help.

Well its 850nm which is outside of the visible spectrum so you wont be able to see the light. And its a pulsed laser meaning it gives the large output in short bursts.

Wow, that guy is a fraud. not only can I get them for $9 apiece (feeler in the group buy
section), but they are actually 10W.

They are used primarily for laser range finding. Say you have a semi-autonomous robot
and want to keep it from running into the walls. Or you want to measure the distance to
some far away object. They are no good for burning. Even if you could see the light, it
wouldn't look all that bright because the duty cycle is only 0.1%. So a 10W diode
would only look like 10mW to the eye, and would "burn" like it too, as in not at all.
