I just bought a 450nm blue laser pointer off of ebay for $80 a couple months ago the listing on the website including the warning label say's the laser pointer is only 5 mW I was just wondering because I have a green laser pointer at home that's only 5 mW and the blue one I got online seems to be more brighter and a lot more powerful i'm new to laser pointers so I pretty much have no idea here is a video of my laser pointer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwMnKlqh0q8

Many of those lasers from china are marked as 5mw to get through customs.
Showing a picture of the laser might help but it's definitely over 1000mw to light the paper on fire that fast. But there's no ways to know for sure without an LPM.
I bought one off of eBay two months ago, and it can light white paper on fire too. Try unscrewing the host and taking it apart. Do so at your own risk, but when I did it to mine, I saw a date stamp reading 9/23/14 and 1600mw.

"How much milliwatt does my laser have" is the same as saying "How many dollars does my wallet have"

IIRC you need a lot less power to light paper on fire with a 405nm laser, 500mW should be more then enough if my memory is correct.

what I asked isn't exactly the same as asking how many dollars does my wallet have but milliwatt and wallet sound similar though i'm not psychic if I had a power meter (LPM) then I would know the true power of my laser pointer if it didn't burn everything I point it at despite being labeled as 5mW then I would have a better guess and I wouldn't be asking this question

He showed you the brightness. That's like watching a car go by and guessing how fast it is. Your guess WILL be off a lot.

Without a LPM you would need to know the power density and size of the dot.
How long is a piece of string? Anyway I would say you got a good laser at a fair price. If its a 450nm its probably over 1W. Jammes are you any relation to Sarah or John?

No his example would be a video of a car going by and you have to tell him how fast it was going. Remember the car is red.

And he spelled Ferrari and Porsche wrong
