How much does product quality fluctuate at the cheap-mid priced companies?

Before I joined, I read a few threads and posts here about various subjects, and one I read was a basic thread written in 2009, I believe, listing the good, bad and ugly laser producers/sellers.

Among the lower priced laser producers/sellers, there was mention that the quality of the lasers at a few of these places had dropped altogether, or was likely to be inconsistent at that time.

But again, that thread was typed in 2009, and now I have watched many videos at youtube, and read reviews here that seem to illustrate that a couple of these lower-mid priced sellers may have improved some or all of their product lines. Two of these companies are O-Like and maybe Lazerer. It seems that they aren't way under their advertised power ratings, and many recent reviewers seem to like them.

BUT.......I guess it must also be pointed out that some of these buyers are probably buying their first or 2nd laser when they get these in the mail, so they dont have a lot of prior experience with lasers, and dont have a good basis of comparison, because maybe they've never owned a more expensive, better made laser. So it's all relative..........ANY 100mW laser that actually works for a while is going to seem better than the 1mW keychain laser you paid $4 for.

What do you guys think about the quality or the consistency of quality at this particular time, of the products offered by the more popular cheaper to mid priced sellers/producers? Does the quality of their products fluctuate somewhat regularly?

Which(if any) sellers at the lower - mid price ranges seem to have the most consistent quality products?
