Hello, everyone!
I am new to lasers and recently started to build my DVD-Burner laser. So here is the question: How do you stop laser beam of high power (yeah, it's high for me :) laser? I understand, it must be matte material but what color? White would reflect too much light and black would absorb much heat, aren't they? Please, help. Thank you.

P.S. Cheap/easy obtainable is plus, I don't need something like black body with liquid helium cooling for now ;)

Carbon, you cant burn it any further than it is, it is at all stores with an aquarium section (walmart) it is dark black, absorbing most light. there are carbon sheets also but you'd have to get that off the Internet.

But you'll need to make a pile or clamp a sheet so air can cool it as it will still be extremely Hot from the applied radiation. I'd suggest a sheet or making something to hold the carbon granules you can obtain in aquarium sections, like a metal mesh frame or something as glass will reflect the beam..

also, you can use matte finish black anodized aluminum also a dvd burner isn't going be so strong where you will be super heating a beam stopper at any length.

Here is what you are basically looking for...

That will cost you an arm and a leg and frankly not needed at these power levels. Heres a bit more info if your interested Click Here

Use a matte black spray painted brick or any metal surface spray painted with a matte finish. Those will suffice for this application.

What do you think charcoal is made of?

"impure carbon from removal of water and other volatile constituents from animal and vegetation substances through a slow pyrolysis and consists of %50-%95 carbon"

A sheet of aluminum sprayed with flat black barbecue paint.
Simple, cheap, effective.
There is no reason to go nuts on this stuff, just make sure to use protection.
*Wear safety goggles too*
