Hot glue Gun?

After I solder to the leads on my Laser diode and Let it cool down, would it be a safe idea to put some hot glue on the leads to prevent them from shorting? Does the glue get hot enough to damage the diode?

If you are soldering wire to the pins, use some shrink tubing instead. If you are soldering directly onto a driver, there is no room for movement to cause a short.

If you are soldering wire to the pins, use some shrink tubing instead.  If you are soldering directly onto a driver, there is no room for movement to cause a short.

Dave, thanks for your help.
At this point in time, I don't have any shrink tubing nor a hair dryer or a heat gun. Would using hot glue be safe?

Light weight "radio" type solder melts at around 750 degrees F (400 C),
Hot melt glue flows at about 350 degrees F (175 C).

Also, unlike solder, which requires the diode's leads to come into direct contact with the tip of your 800 to 1200 degree soldering iron's tip, hot glue is just applied out of the glue gun, nothing has to touch the gun's heated nipple.

So no worries on using hot glue.

you can use the cooler part of the shaft of a soldering iron to shrink the tubing instead.

I would stress the cooler side . If you wern't done with the iron and used the tip then you would have to re-address the tip and that
is a pain in the arss :'(

Yes, not only that, but you'd melt (rather than shrink) the tubing.

oohh danguin...i got my batteries in..as oon as i get soe drivers in i'll send in my blu and red lasers for a review :D
