Has anyone used this flashlight host before? I'm trying to find a host that has fins on it... more for look then functionality as I doubt they would dissipate that much heat.

the golden one looks like an alienish thing, haha (don't know why)
there is a host for $150 at DX, with plenty fins (and lumens too, ~2100) but too expensive.

That looks cool. What host is that? Did you make those heat sinks yourself?

Host is a tank007 hc-128. The nose was shortened on the finned heatsinks. Those are prototypes I made. Trying to find a good balance on fin width and durability since copper is pretty soft.

I like that host, it feels sturdy in your hands. But I believe that's the flashlight that comes with that obnoxious/useless tripod thing right? Which means that there is a threaded hole in the side of the host. Or is there an HC-128 that doesn't have that?

Does anyone know if this empty host has a pill in it? I'd get it if I knew it had one. DX has one of these in a prebuilt flashlight but it's twice as much.

Why do you need a pill ? they just take up room that could make the heatsink bigger !
I just ordered 4 of these from DD, I'll let you know if they have a pill or not ;)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what exactly a pill is. I thought it was thing that holds the battery in place and allows you to put a driver in easier. If it's not can you tell me what a pill is? Or better yet can you show me a picture :)

A lot of people like that "obnoxious/useless tripod thing". Lots of people put their lasers in a tripod with a clamp, with this host there is no need to buy extra parts.

BTW qumefox, those look fantastic.

Well it's not so much the tripod I don't like, its that threaded hole that it creates in the host. I can see how the tripod could be useful though.

I've used that host iin OP.
unfortunately the parts it's made up of make it very impractical as a laser host.
Inside is a small pill that sits between vertical rails. it has threads on the side that catch against that ring on the outside to move up and down to focus. The focus feature also goes in "clicks" so you wouldn't be able to do fine focusing,
I thought it was an awesome flashlight, but it was WAY wrong as a laser host.

I still have the pieces in the basement.....
