Yeah that's good. Actually that's as much as you want to drive your LD at if you want it to have a long life, just make shure you use a heatsink and you use 6 nimh batteries, that way it'll take a long time before you have to recharge them. Just using 4 won't be able to power the diode at that current. Read posts #8 and #9 in the first page of the thread. ;)

You can use two cr123 rechargeables, they wouldn't take up too much space, they would give you 7.2v, and they last a life time. Just make shure they're rechargeable because normal ones would only give you 6v.

Well then I think you'll have to use the cr123 rechargeables, because using only four AAAs the max current you'll be able to power your diode at is about 116 mA.

As for the holder I think you could come up with a way to make one.

well basically i should either use 2 cr123's or 6 AAA NiMH's?

Yup ;D ;D
But make shure you get cr123 rechargeables because normal ones would be the same as using 5 AAA NiMHs.

30 bucks for 2 rechargeable cr123's and a charger is pretty high for me... how about this design where i can stack two AAA holders on top of one another. each will hold 3 rechargeable NiMH AAA's. this way, ill be able to fit all 6 batteries in my project box. i attached the design in a word document. somebody please tell me if this will work.
