My grandpa told me that he read an article in the new york times that talked about "holographic" hard drives. He said it could hold data that was burned into a 3d medium.... did anyone see this article? I want to know more about it... could mean more high power laser diodes on the rise. Maybe something that would work like a dual layer writer.... except with 20 layer capabilities.

yeah, it's been done. The only problem is erasing the data :p I'm pretty sure it uses high powered green lasers for reading though.

Didn't it use like a 1 watt green laser or something? I remember some optical disc drive was going to have a 1 watt greenie, and I think a 1 watt red too.

I say get it into development, they would be hobbyist heaven :D
