I ordered from Ledshoppe on Oct 11 and got an email on Oct 13 saying it was shipped registered air mail Oct 12, but when I input the tracking number RT*********HK at Hongkong Post - Mail Tracking it says:

To promptly retrieve the record of your item, please key in your Enquiry Reference Number (if available), for example, 05000123A:

but any other numbers in the email I tried did not give any results so what is up with that, is this normal, do most people have problems with HK post tracking not working ?

The USPS site says "There is no record of this item."

Did most of you have the same problem of no tracking results at all and just have to wait till it actually arrives ?

(not trying to sound impatient, just wondering if the undependable tracking is what to expect based on your experience with shipping from HK, thanks !)

When I got HK tracking numbers from DX it would only tell me when the package would leave china. After a few days I used the same tracking number and entered it into the Canada Post tracking site. So in your case I would wait a few days then enter it into the USPS site.

Some tracking #'s from HK never work, your package will just show up. I have had packages take upto 3 weeks to get here from HK.

Thanks, hopefully the lack of any tracking at all from the HK post site does not mean it didn't get sent out from them yet.

I just emailed Ledshoppe asking them to verify if the tracking number was typed correctly and if so then why it has never yet showed up on the HK Post tracking site, so hopefully they can help check that for me.

(I'll see about posting what I find out after I get a reply from Ledshoppe so others can benefit from knowing what might be one of the causes of an HK Post tracking number not being recognized if it happens to them)

No reply from Ledshoppe yet, and not trying to seem impatient, I realize some of those companies can be busy and take a little while to respond, but I was just wondering if anyone else emailed Ledshoppe in recent weeks how long it usually took them to respond and also do they have any representatives that are members here on LPF ?

How we handle orders from China.

1. Make the order.
2. Forget that you made the order.
3. Act surprised when it comes 3 weeks later.

Thanks TJ for the funny reminder that patience is needed when ordering from China :-)

.....it's just that it would make it somewhat easier to wait if at least the tracking number would be recognized so I could be sure it has actually started on it's way :D

Well point being that China's mail service is so screwed up, they are useless anyway.

I had a similar experience with my HK post tracking number when I ordered from O-like. I received the tracking number on 9-21, but it did not work until 9-27. Even then, it did not work in the USPS website until the status on HK went to "will depart Hong Kong Air mail centre on xxxx" which was about 24 hours later. I guess it can be hit and miss.

Thanks, that is encouraging, your tracking number started working 6 days after you got the tracking number, it has been about 8 days since I got my tracking number so hopefully it will start working soon :D

I should add that mine was slightly delayed due to a Chinese holiday, so if there has been any other holidays since you received your tracking number, yours may be delayed as well.

9 times out of 10, you are going to get your package. "Getting" the package is the part you can rely on, but getting it soon is the part you that you can forget about except with very few vendors. You are right, you have to be patient.

Lol this happened to me with almost everything I buy in the internets. Last thing I forgot I bought was some vacuum tubes I ordered on ebay.
Thes took 4 or 5 days anyway.

I'm in the same situation as the OP. I bought some crap a long time ago from DX and I'm still waiting. Hell. The worst thing is that some of these itemes are not for me, so if they don't arrive I'll be don goofed.
