Umm, really? "Hey guys, I'm nice, would you like to give me something?"
No offense, but do you walk up to people on the street and ask for donations? I'd love for people to give me things too, but I've never thought of just asking complete strangers to just give me things for absolutely nothing.
Plenty of people here sell lasers, and sell parts for lasers, and we've had a raffle or two for lasers to raise money for the forum, and I've even seen nice posters here give other established posters things to help them out (daguin helped out wes with a present for a girl friend, and gus helped out a guy who got scammed on ebay by another poster here), but I've yet to see anyone just give things away to complete strangers for no reason.
Good luck I guess, but somehow I don't see this "hey, give me free stuff" thing working out for you.

The two instances you speak of were offers made by the giving members. In neither case did they post asking for a freebee, rather the goodhearted offering members had the idea of helping out.
I must say this is the first type of public post asking for anything like this that ive seen. Although there are always a few members who panhandle via PM :

I am new here too chaylz. In the last month I've learned a lot about lasers and a lot about how rich a community of unmoderated good folks can be. If you hang around a while and make some posts, you will find that forum members are very generous with their knowledge and time. In that spirit, most LPF members have given or received knowledge, advice, good deals, and/or good will. Very few if any have asked for donations, in fact many have given real money to keep LPF alive and kicking.
As a gesture of goodwill I assume you are quite grateful to LPF members who donated their time, knowledge, and money...otherwise this thread would not have been possible. This is real good energy coming at you, and believe it or not it is worth more than money.
Best of luck...maybe you'd consider donating a large percent of your gains from threads like this to this free, member-supported forum?
