I had LASIK last Friday. I was called a few days prior to the procedure and was asked to abstain from wearing hairhel/makeup/cologne etc. because the optics of the laser are sensitive to odor.

WHAT?!

Isn't it due to the chemical's changing the wavelength of the laser?

From your title I was assuming that I would hear, "OMG I can't see out of one eye, and the other is very blury!" ;D

Yes, I would believe that the coating would be very sensitive. If the coating was damaged on a very small scale, I'm sure it would deform the beam. Which means, say good bye to your eye, because as you probably well know, these things must be done with precision.
