High Power 532nm Safety Goggles

im becoming increasingly frustrated with my WL 532nm shades.
they just dont protect my eyes at all when im using my RPL-400.
it seems as though 400mw of green is too much for these goggles to handle.
at first they seemed ok but now something is seriously wrong, alot of the green is coming through and hittin me in the face, dunno if some of the dye is starting to wear off, not sure.
with my goggles on, the dot from my RPL looks like a 30mw green without goggles!!!!
i cant play with my RPL until i have some new goggles now
i need some help - anyone own an RPL 300 or higher? what goggles do you use and do they fully protect your eyes and block most of the green?
alot of people reccommend Nova shades but are they alot better than WL shades?
Nova claim theyre shades are OD 6/7, is that ideal for over 400mw of green?

Get some of those OD 6 novashades. The dot from my RPL 300 is as bright as the dot from a <1mw red with them.

Well, the goggles from wicked a probably more designed for small laser pointers and nothing really over 200mW or so (since they don't sell anything higher than that).

If you have goggles designed for like 1+ Watt green lasers you wouldn't see anything with a weak green laser pointer. So it would be useless to sell them that strong from wicked.

So IMO there isn't anything wrong with the wicked shades, they are just meant for weaker lasers.

Id say their goggles are not made for anything over 100mw that doesn't modehop.

Their goggles are good, (because WL doesn't manufacture them) honestly, this is the first time I've heard of someone getting a bad pair of goggles. Gazoo and many other experienced members always recommended them in the past. In fact, SenKat will start selling them on his site not so long from now.
I believe we already discussed this matter here. You never said the dot looked like the one of a 30mW laser. Have the goggles gone bad?

Most protective eyewear offered by enthusiast sites such as WL are alignment glasses because the user still wants to see the beam spot for aiming to pop balloons, etc. My suspicion is the WL shades are OD 2 for 532nm. If your RPL is outputting 450mW 532nm and you take a direct shot to the eyes, you will still see 4.5mW focused on the retina. That is still incredibly bright.

Fortunately direct shots tend to be rare but you could be in serious trouble if one of two things or both happen:

1) You shoot your glasses because you like to test how well they block the beam. All certified goggles will protect you for 10 seconds on a direct exposure. If you are zapping your glasses with your laser for the fun of it you will bleach the organic dyes embedded in the polycarbonate and that particular area becomes transparent to the 532nm and essentially useless.

2) The laser eyewear you are using is NOT certified by the FDA or CE to protect you for 10 seconds and direct exposure bleaches the dyes almost immediately. I've never used WL shades. Can anyone tell me if they arrive with a current certification certificate?

Now if both occur you are pretty much screwed.

Certified?? Mine came as 8$ (declared) "Sunglasses" It seems to be a CYA thing.

That's what I call a red flag. Why they have to lie on the customs form for laser glasses is beyond me. It's also a felony.

They drop ship directly from HK from the looks of it, and the packaging has nothing to do with their site.
The only indication of what they are is the WL logo on the case. Mine work fine, ive also exposed the edge of the lens to a focused hit for about ten seconds or a little more and nothing went through. But on the other hand, China isnt known for their fine quality control :-/

Here is a DIY for good shades. If you can find a barcode scanner with the large red filter, you can make your own. I picked one up a while back, and figured I would try it out. I have only tested them up to 200mW of 532, and am not sure if they could take 400+. It seems to be made of lexan, about 5mm thick and blocks about 95% of the green.

as ForthyChimp said, i think due to exposures on the shades the dye may have bleached out a bit.
im prob just going to go with the novashades for now.

That would be a good route to go. Mine work good for me, but then again im not playing with more than 200mW

hehe i feel like that too sometimes, its like +400mw is way too much power for indoor use, you have to be outside in the open to fully appreciate it.
150mw is more than enough for any burning indoors, unless your talking distance.
i bought the 400mw because at the time i just happend to have some spare cash to splash on a new laser.
