Hey my names Matt.
I'm really interested in laser pointers and building them.

I learn fast and was looking to build a mildly powerful one, preferably a green/yellow one. It would be great if anyone could point me in a great place to start.

I think building a green/yellow laser is incredibly difficult
especially if you don't know anything about them
might I suggest starting off with building a red
you can find instructions and tips in the experiments section
and you can get diodes etc in the group buy section

Welcome to LPF! and yes, definitely best to start off with a diode laser (green/yellow/blue are DPSS rather than diodes), get a red diode for $17.50 or a violet one for $30 in the group buys here from what i've heard, it's too difficult to build a DPSS for the average hobbyist, so i wouldn't get your hopes up, but if you have lots and lots of patience and money to fund such an attempt go for it otherwise, there are a few great companies to buy green/blue/yellow lasers from, some even give LPF users a discount, just check for discount codes in the deals n discounts section!
