The Herc won't be that portable. My Titan (Herc replica) is a pain to carry around, I only use it in my house. If I would have know that at the time, I would have gotten a lab instead.

Optotronics RPL Portable Green Lasers also have really nice lasers. Really good beam specs.

+ consider to also get a 500mW 635nm, you can use the same beam expander for this laser. It is going to be as bright as your 1W 445nm - just red-orange

Oooh red, nice ill have to check that one out. Im definitely wanting something with an epander. Jet lasers products looks really nice but unfortunately there is a long wait which is to be expected. Im still not disregarding the Herc....just so much bastard money :banghead:

As far as portability is concerned the herc is definitely portable, but by no means convenient or easy to carry around. It's easy enough to take it and shine it out of your window at night or use standing still, but it's definitely not a laser to carry around with you out at night and take on a fog walk. Btw mine puts out about 500mw average with a peak somewhere in the mid 500's. I bought it used several years ago. Also they do take D batteries which tend to be somewhat annoying. As the voltage sags the laser drops in power and quality rechargeable D's cost a fortune. The Herc would be much more convenient if it took standard 18650's.

Basically I'd sum it up like this:
-Will it impress your buddies and WOW the neighborhood? Yes.
-Are there cheaper and more practical options out there? Yes.
-Is the herc higher quality than those options? With the exception of optotronics yes.
-If you're rich and have your heart set on it go for the herc. If not you might wanna look into a nice RPL+beam expander from optotronics. The rpl would be cheaper+smaller+takes rechargeable 18650's.

Thanks a lot for your evaluation, ill check out optotronics but Laserglow seems so much better. That is probably the main disadvantage for me, the batteries. Do the batteries last for a long time? I was going to get the A/C adapter for it as well so when im in the garage messing around ill be OK. Im probably going to get one eventually as ive had my eye on it for so long, but im going to keep my eye out for any discounts available around boxing day :).

Thanks again.

If you buy the Hercules-650 I'll throw in a custom full-body Hello Kitty engraving at no charge. Seriously, I will, but you have to post pictures of yourself using it.

So there is such thing as a hello kitty Herc? Im assuming its a permanent thing though...its not something that can attach like a phone cover?

Thanks for the offer:beer:
