[Help] Problem with a 50mW Green Laser

I recently bought a 50mW 532nm green laser, specifically this one:
LZMN - 532nm 50mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer
With the Battery Pack:
**Upgrade Pack** 18650 / 16340 li-ion Battery + Charger**
What its a 16340 battery.

For the moment everything is Ok. I put the battery to charge and when it finally was fully charged (after two hours, and the light of the charger was green) I turned on the laser. It was working perfectly, it was able to burn what a 50mW focusable laser can burn (lighting matches and popping balloons).
Before the 3 minutes of duty cycle that it has, I turned it off. But when I turned it on again it wasn't making the green light. It was only doing a red dot. What's wrong with it? It's a problem of the battery or of the laser module?
If I turn it on after a long time it returns to make the green light...

Help please.

What happens is the IR heats up the crystals, it will continue to lase fine until turned off, and then will not initiate lasing again until the crystals return to normal temperature, which takes a while.

My 473nm Labby does the same thing (not no output but severely reduced ouput) if I power cycle it after a long run time.

It should be fine, just stick to a shorter duty cycle or increase the off time between sessions.

The red dot is extremely dangerous to your eyes.
This is almost pure-IR light emitted from the diode, which a crystal inside your laser should turn green and visible.

Please, use this only when the dot has turned green or your eyes may take damage from even looking at the dot!

Now it gets stranger, the battery it's fully charged but the laser doesn't work, even being the first time I put it on and being yet cold. Anybody knows what shall I do to get the laser working? Thank you.

Unfortunately it sounds to me like the internal parts are either damaged or defective. Today's green laser pointers are not easily repaired, many can't be repaired at all. Your best bet is an RMA if the laser is covered by a warranty.

Does it smell burned or like acid?
It might me overheated and thereby broken.

Try turning it on and letting it stay on for about 10sec, if it still doesn't work after that it is probably damaged badly. It is possible that the duty cycle was vastly surpassed and either the alignment is out from thermal stresses or it is simply "burned up".

If it produces green light again after about 10 sec, and increases in brightness gradually for a few sec afterwards, it is probably as I said in my first post - temperature sensitive. The crystals inside work best at a certain temperature range.

My Nexus is very dim for the first few sec you power it on, and as the crystals warm up it increases output. If you exceed the duty cycle of 1 min though, it will not power on again until it has cooled down. As stated before, my 473 Labby only does this once the head is quite hot (hours of on time).

I think it's damaged or something...
It doesn't really smell like burned, it smells normally I think.
The firsts times I turned on the laser it was working really well, don't know what happened.
I will like to get a refund or something but I don't know if I'll be able or how to do it.

I buyed/payed it on the 29 of december, and received it the 5 of january (9 days ago).

Yep, sounds like it is busted.

You got it from Lazerer, just contact Max (who runs the company) and explain to him that it stopped working and you would like a replacement/refund. Max is very professional and easy to to talk to, just contact him with the form on the lazerer site.

Do remember it is a chinese holiday right now, and a rather long one, so you might have to wait a short while for a reply. Better to contact them as soon as you can, but don't expect a replacement until after February second!

"Latest date of placing order will be on 11th January. Orders placed after this date will be processed on the 1st of Feb" -Lazerer

Yea so they have already stopped taking orders. I ordered mine 5 days ago and it still says processing. How did you get yours so fast?

My fault, buyed it on 20/12/2011 and appeared like Processing.
At 29/12/2011 it appeared like Shipped.
And received it on 05/01/2012

Just noticed that with the camera I can see a dot of light, it's the dangerous IR, right? Because with my eye I can't see anything when I point it into a wall.
Here are three pictures taken with 1s, 5s and 15s of exposure respectively:

PS: Sorry for the double post, but I find it interesting to know.

Yeah, that's the IR, don't repeat that again, hehe, REALLY bad for your eyes.

Since the pump diode and driver are fine and you can't see the IR (thus it isn't the 808 pump) what appears to have happened is the non-linear crystal has been either damaged or disloged. Most likely dislodged.

Hey, i've been in this exactly situation when i bought my 50mW green from O-like, I tried to charge and discharge the batteries that came with it (some Blue ultrafire ones) but nothing happened.
Then i bought some Sanyo 2600Mah cells, and it worked perfectly :] My recomendation is to try to get a quality cell and test it out, if it doesn't work, just contact Lazerer company ;)

Good luck, hope helped.
