Hello!I'm trying to build a burning laser using the laser diode from LG 24x DVD-RW. We only found one laser diode with 4 pins. Since only one laser diode was found, would it mean that this diode is the read and write laser? Also, would this laser diode be the laser diode for a burning laser? And what would be its pin-out? what would be the driver circuit for this type of diode?

Here is the photo of the diode

Thanks in advance.. :)

You can't use thise diode. The Aixiz module only accept 5.6mm round diode. This rectangular diode can't fit it. Sorry. :(

What if I'll not use the aixiz module.??will it be possible to use this type of laser diode?

@Blord
How do you know that this diode isnt 5.6mm.
Maybe he hasnt removed it from the heatsink.

@mtaz
We want some more detailed pictures of your diode

I have seen these diodes before. The four pins are in the same row and the material is black plastic and not brass/copper 5.6mm round can.

Update: I've collected another laser diode from a lite-on dvd writer. I've managed to find one diode only. Is this the write laser? Here is the picture of our newly gathered diode.

Yea that is another flat packet diode. They really are not very useful.:undecided:

Try it... Can't hurt. Just watch out for IR. it may not be visible light.

Did you ever figure out the pin order on these diodes ? I have several and I think I have figured our a way to use one using a 5mW green heatsink and a 3mW red from a cheap flashlite I just need the pin out order.
