I just received a Green Laser I bought off geek shopping app.

This laser says on the warning label.
Max output power <5000mw
wavelength 532nm _+10
class lll laser

Says Laser 303 in the body of the laser.

I guess less than 5000 mw could mean 1 mw. I bought it because in the ad was shown lighting a match. I put the battery in and tried a piece of paper [it did nothing] then I tried a match [it did nothing] It is bright however and it has a diffuser that you can turn to make cool patterns on the wall. Yes I took the diffuser off to try to light something. It also has a key for the end of it to turn it on if that helps you know who makes it.

Something I found strange is that the polarity is backwards compare to most things you would indert a battery into a tube. + or nipple end of the battery would usually go in first but this one is the opposite of that of something like a flashlight.

it was only $19 so you get what you pay for I guess.

This is a typical mass-produced low cost green laser. Be careful around it, since those things don't have filters to block out IR light!

so what is my best option for one that will light something and maybe to disorient someone if I wanted to mount to to my pistol? I bought this for my survival gear so I could light something like kindling if I was stuck in the wilderness with no flint or anything. I can light a fire with a couple sticks but I like the advantage of the multiple use you can get out of a good laser.

You will need two different lasers for that, a smal low powered one for the pistol that's made for that purpose, and something much larger and more powerful to light a campfire. Forget about anything green, save up $150-$200 or more and buy a 2W-3W+ blue 445/450nm.

ok so 2w or 3w. I can handle a couple hundred. I was thinking maybe there was one out there that would burn and also be dynamic with refraction with an added attachment so I could mount it to my pistol. I don't want a low power for my gun. If I pull a gun on someone it is gonna do more damage than a laser would do.

I just thought of something. I have an extra ps3 and other blureray players. What do you guys think about taking out the laser and replacing the one thats in the one I have? It has a focus-able end on it. that would be free.

Don't triple post, they don't allow it here, use the edit button to add to your last post or wait for a reply before posting again.

No it would be far too large to mount to your pistol. Even if you could have one made that was small enough it would have very short battery life and a very short duty cycle, probably 10-15 seconds, so it would have to have a separate switch on the gun to be able to quickly turn it off or on without having to use two hands.

This is a global forum, you need to fill out your profile with your location so it shows under your name before asking where to buy something or people won't give you the correct link or they won't bother to answer. People need to at least know what country your in.

No that won't work. The infamous 303/301 lasers are cheap Chinese lasers made with nonstandard parts. Anyway a 532nm is DPSS not a direct diode laser. Even if it wasn't a 532nm you still can't just swap out one diode with another, they all have different requirements.

Please spend a few days doing some reading to learn more about lasers.

If you decide to stay around as a member here I also suggest you post a thread in the welcome forum to tell people a little about yourself so we can get to know you.

its an okay laser to start out, but the quality is not very good u either can get a very good one if lucky and most are overspec but like others wrote they dont have ir filter, if u want be serious in lasers they do cost a little but its so much more fun and u enjoy it alot more then those cheap chinese mass produced lasers.
