most of the aiptasia is close to the front glass so the fish wont be able to view the end point but they may glance at the beam before they go into hiding..ive been trying to build a peice of smoked plastic to block the work area, just incase

mmmmmm. Maybe someone can do the math on how light passes through water differently then air but I would think since the fish are fairly close to the beam the refracting light would be intense enough to damage their eyes. But then again I don't know how sensitive each type of fish is to different types of light.
Maybe it's like that one guy who was using a red laser to site boar for hunting because they can't see red very well. Maybe they can't see blu-ray and since it burns really well you could use that? Just throwin ideas out there.

Would be even worse if they can't see it.. They wouldn't hide and take even more damage.

i have 100 pounds of rock in my tank that they can hide behind....they hide when you get up close to the tank without a laser ,so im sure as soon as they see the thing they will go for cover

All my fish would usually chill in fairly open areas in all my tanks unless you got right up with your face. Plus I had a decent amount of fish in the tank to begin with. Would have been very hard for me to zap stuff without a fish near by.
I like the idea of the box though. Maybe you could get a colored plastic which would at least help basic reflection and shield any curious fishes.
