Hello all,
I have been lurking reading a lot of the posts and I can say there is a wealth of information out there. I need help in locating a laser pointer for a specific purpose. I need either a red or green laser pointer, very small power for alignment aids of a multi-camera system I am working on. Along those lines, I also need to be able to turn the laser on, and it stays on. most pointers I have used in the past have a momentary switch and not a latching switch. I need 6, prefer 8, so they need to be reletively inexpensive.

the biggest driving force is the constant-on operation. Please point me to companies where I can purchase these type laser pointers.

I would just buy some red pointers on DX (1.61 each) and use tape to hold the button, don't spend cash in specific lasers, or well, do it and pay 30x times the price

Do a google search on "pocket laser level".
Lots of different form factors, most are $5 to $10 bucks each and have switches that stay on (cause, they're like,  used as levels to align things, like picture frames, doors, cameras...)

Re: Help finding pointer with specific characteris

A big thank you to all for your quick responses. I have searched through most of the sites you recommended. In regards to your post, suicide king, I performed, IMO a fairly exhaustive search, but to no avail that would meet my needs. I was specifically looking for the pocket laser levels in your photo. the closest thing I found to that was something called the "yellow submarine" but it had a huge "buoy" like area on the side, I assume for the battery. Can you tell me what company you got that photo from?

thanks,
Kevin

You want a "torpedo laser level" -I don't know why they use nautical names for them.

But really, you can do it a lot cheaper.
Go to your nearest 99 cent store/discount store and get a keychain laser for about a dollar.

Then go to your hardware store and buy 1 foot of 3/8" inch plastic tubing.
(only 'cause they won't sell less than a foot)

At home, cut the tubing in to little 1/2" inch rings.

Slide the ring down the body of the laser pointer, keep sliding it and it will depress and slide over the on button. The laser will stay on. To turn the laser off, just slide the little 1/2" inch collar you made back, so it releases the button.

You could do the same thing with PVC pipe, or even a bit of that split tubing they use to make computer wires look neat.

Suicide,
Wow! Way more information than I was expecting. Thank you. I really like the idea of the tubing and may use it on a future project.

thanks again,

Big Lots sells the type of level you're looking for, along with a tripod, & choice of tools for $5.00 USD rob
