There seem to be hundreds (if not more) of choices for the DIYer with respect to diodes, modules, drivers, hosts, heatsinks, etc!

I'd like to build something myself, but I don't have the tools or experience to want to risk buying individual parts only to find I can't build it myself or end up destroying them.

What I'd like to be able to do is buy parts where there is as little work as possible to put them together and have them work. I guess the most difficult and exacting work is combining the laser diode and driver together. If I were to buy a finished module, containing the diode, driver, and heatsink, what's the best way to match it up with a host, hopefully where there's no drilling to get it to fit?

Or, is there an easy way to find people who have the hosts all done and they say combine it with any of these modules (A, B, or C) and you're done?

I would get one of jayrobs kits(found in the bst section) with the hot option and then you just solder your diode in a module(which you can get at darklasers or hightechdealz) to two wires and you are ready to go.

I concur, Jayrob's DIY laser projects are very easy to complete, & you gain valuable experience in the process..........rob
