LOL, I can see glass sliding doors to a bottleshop or supermarket.

The solution is so easy, with a mono laser printer, print a white square on photo glossy paper (use mspaint or CorelDraw), tape the paper onto the glass (make sure its Painters Masking Tape, normally blue in colour) then shine a decent 6v torch onto the paper, wait 5 minutes and the IR light stops.

If you can't get the blue masking tape you can compensate by using one of these.
If you use two CR123a's it may even work in as little as 3min.

I doubt this is a vending machine unless it's a really ancient one. Modern coin mechanisms have a lot more checks than just an IR/photocell counter. To my knowledge they check for diameter, mass, and material type. Plus getting to the sensors involves having the machines open already anyway. Bill scanners are even more complicated, but most of their work is done in software.

I'm not sure what this kid is trying to accomplish, but stealing cokes probably isn't it, or at least is never going to happen if it does happen to be the goal.
