I will more than likely be buying a jetlasers 400-500mw PL-C pro. I think a beam expander would be cool so I can hit certain things that are far away such as clouds or far away buildings possibly.

So Gray gave me these prices

3X: 70$
5X: 80$
10X: 100$

what one should I go for? I was thinking wither the 5X or the 10X. But how will they each compare to once another? what will be the main difference besides that the dot on the 10X will be smaller at a farther distance than the 5X.

Thanks,
oso

Good question. Those prices seem really good too.

The only difference between the 3,5 and 10X beam expanders is that each of them will increase the diameter of the beam by that amount and therefore reduce divergence by that same amount. There might be some physical difference between all three, as well as the minimum focus distance, but thats about it. You should go for the 10X beam expander if you want the smallest beam diameter over very large distances. Each one of them will have different beam characteristics and depending on the distances you are working with, one of them will be better suited for the job.
