You have to understand these are nuisance birds that are destroying product, causing millions of dollars of damage, and also creating a health hazard for customers and employees alike. Normally when we are called it's moderate to severe damage. We aren't going to these places to remove 1 bird. It's usually 50+ birds. And keep in mind they are roosting inside the stores where they have access to food and water. They will be active 24/7. They don't have to worry about natural predators because they are living inside so they adapt to the environment and become a nuisance. That's when we come in and remove them. And no we are completely within the law to remove the birds. When we relocate them they stay within the state they were retrieved from. We do however have a federal permit to relocate them out of state but it is not necessary to do so. House sparrows, and starlings will live anywhere. And just fyi house sparrows are one of the worst nuisance birds because they will kill other songbirds just so they can take over the area. That's why you will see them attacking birds in flight often it's 2 or more of them attacking 1. They will also takeover nests of other species and destroy the eggs. We often relocate them in open areas away from other businesses. I'm sure if you were an employee and were working in conditions that could jeopardize your health you would want them removed too. I can discuss birds with you all day but the post was to see if anyone could help removing the birds with lasers. Not if it's right or wrong.

I have seen this problem in a couple of stores before, and a storage facility I used to work at had a problem with pigeons for a long time. I was just looking on YouTube and found this video of a guy herding geese off his property into his neighbors yard. Am not sure his neighbors would like that.

I feel sad about the geese around here
anymore. Invasive white swans are moving
in and crowding them out. They are very
territorial and vicious toward anything
that gets too close. They can and will
even break a child's neck with their
powerful wings. The geese are forced into
less preferred nesting sites, when they can
find any at all. They are greatly
decreasing in number and we hardly see them
anymore. They used to fly over in huge
numbers during the fall migration.

The swans are "pretty" and stay around all
winter, but the only sound they make is
when they hiss when they are angry, which
is fairly often, and the droppings are even
larger. There are plenty of swan fight
videos on YouTube if you want to see what I
mean.

I agree. The Canadian geese are beautiful birds but dang do they make a mess. They can wipe out a field of vegetation overnight. All they do is eat and poop. We have a lot of them in NJ during their migration. I'll post some pics of what damage these birds can do.

the plural is just "canada geese" that is their name, but dont feel bad, many make that mistake. I only know because I am a bird guy.

Thanks for that, I didn't know that either. We used to get huge numbers of Canada geese here in this area but they are going away or moving to other areas or something. Maybe it's because I moved a few years ago and am not in the right place most of the time but I don't think that's it. I think they are not coming here anymore or their population is declining. I think something is wrong. I hope it's not due to radiation from Fukushima or due to GMO foods grown here, or some similar reason. I have heard about the starfish disappearing and the sardines. I hope we aren't screwing up the environment beyond repair.

I help removing the birds with lasers. Not if it's right or wrong.

Woohoo, didn't realize I couldn't ask a question about your job.

As for Canadian Geese in NJ. They don't really migrate that much anymore. Many of them are permanent residents. We made it so good for them, why leave? Can't legally trap them, can't kill them, we stop traffic when they cross the road, but it's open season on cats and squirrels if you have a car. See any goose roadkill lately?

Ooops. I'm off topic again aren't I?

They are not Canadian Geese, they are Canada Geese. :na:

We have dead goose road kill all over by where I live/work....no one slows down for them any more unless they have a line of chicks behind them....they just run them over, typically while muttering something that sounds a lot like "Damn feathered rats..."

If they have chicks following them, people do feel bad running them over...but that's about it around here at least, we're pretty sick of them.

There's a lake along rt 1 for example, and there's a hwy divider running down Rt 1 there that has a "drift" of goose feathers and bones piled along it from the car-nage.

I've seen my share of geese dead on the side of the road if that's your question? You're also comparing geese (that can fly) to cats and squirrels which can't. Pretty much every year you can see them though. It's normally a pile of feathers like Teej said. It happens mostly on the roads by lakes or ponds. I think most people would choose to hit what's in front of them as opposed to crashing off the road. There's lots of 55-65 mph roads where I live. Unless we can somehow incorporate green lasers into the headlights of my vehicle then yes we are WAY off topic.

That's a pretty rude comment to make.
I don't know of any birds that fly at night. Can you tell us the names of these birds?

Are you serious? You have never seen birds fly at night? Some raptors ie Owls fly primarily at night and sleep in the day not to mention non predatory birds. It may not be their most active time but why would you think birds can't fly at night?

I'd consider the use of a beam expander with these birds to reduce the power density of the light entering their pupils, if you have concerns about that.

I purchased a 1watt 520nm green laser for this exact purpose. I don't shine it at their eyes only need to show the dot on the ground moving towards them and they move away quickly.
I started with a 5mw laser and worked great early morning or at dusk but during the day useless. This is the time when they are very active and getting ready to nest. I even went so far as to chase them with my Dji quad copter.

My dogs work great but they stop to eat the poop:barf:

Anyways I'm not comfortable using this laser and want to sell it. If anyone is interested in it I would just like to get what I bought it for.
I'm asking 500 comes with li batteries and charger.
