I thought they were shipped from the US. Where are you from SenKat?

They are shipped from Canada. They can't sell that stuff from the US. Canada does not have the strict laws about lasers as the United States does. ::)

Yes, but they are either selling legal lasers (NL lasers are illegal here), or they are just skirting the law and hoping to get away with it. The laws on these lasers here in the US aren't too kind to us hobbyists, and I don't see them getting any nicer as these weeks grow to months. :(

Are you saying it's illegal to own a Nova laser in the U.S.?

Take a look at hte laws concerning ANY laser in excess of 5mw - every single laser out there is illegal to use, unless it falls into the narrow gap of "safety" featured lasers - the aperature caps, 3 second delay, etc....

Ok, so I'm confused again. I guess I need to do more research. I'm pretty sure the models I've been looking at do not have a three second delay. As for a cap, I have no idea. So would the x45 be considererd illegal to purchase in the U.S.?

Take a look at this : http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?FR=1040.10
and at this :
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?FR=1040.11

It will tell you everything you need to know. The short and sweet of it is this : ANYTHING above 5mw that does not have the required safety features as outlined by the FDA is illegal. Now, with that being said, I used a 95mw green on New Years Eve in Downtown San Antonio, and was immediately surrounded by police ! They wanted to know where they could get one, that was all. The reason the law is there, is to be able to hammer someone if they shine it at moving cars, airplanes, etc - I have yet to see it enforced anywhere - except on occasion at the border, when it is seized by customs. But, most companies guarrantee against a customs seizure, so your money is safe.

I just had a nice chat with a DL rep. He told me they flat out lie to the government when declaring these things as they come into the U.S. Doesn't the buyer face some trouble if the item happens to get seized?

Didja read hte links I posted ? It outlines all the possibilities, etc there. To the best of my knowledge, nobody I know has ever faced legal action, either civil, or otherwise from buying a laser and having it shipped to the States.

I just spent two weeks shopping for one of these things. I guess it's my own fault for not realizing they may be illegal in the U.S. I'm not a happy camper.

Yes, I read it. But I'm just not sure I want to take the risk.

Why are you unhappy ? Ah....I see what you mean. Well, it is entirely up to you, of course.
