Heatsink Ideas

Im not spending the money for a heatsink for my aixiz modules(unless very cheap). Im questioning the theory of using washers? If sounds good, and i bet i can find the right diameter to fit the module. Will it work? It should absorb the heat just fine?

you pay for what you get... washers will not absorb hardly any heat b/c of the materials they are made of.

Salvage aluminum from old PC heatsinks, Hell just drill out the middle of an old CPU heatsink, it's ugly but FREE and it works.

I did this with a copper sink I salvaged, but the closest drill bit I had was too big so I had to use a small one then use my dremel to painstakingly grind it out, but that was too big so I had to use a heatsink fin and thermal grease to fill the gap, but now I don't even trust it. I'm gonna start a WTB thread for a HS right now.

The main problem when trying to use washers, is that usually you can find just iron washers, and iron is not as so good heat conductor as aluminium or copper.

But, just as hypotesis ..... if there was the possibility to find aluminium or copper washers, the idea may be better ..... just trying to imagine, a series of washers of different diameters, made with aluminium or copper, and "pressed" on the aixiz module, in conjunction with a bit of thermal bicomponent glue, may be efficent enough for worth the trial ..... (just another crazy idea from your neighborhood mad scentist :p)
