Have you ever killed a Laser?

well I think I just killed my Oclaro 700 mW

I had it working for less than 3 days and it had probably about 1 hour on it. Not quite sure what I did.:cryyy:

Don't feel too badly. I destroyed two of those before I switched to the Mits 500mW diodes. Never had any luck pushing that diode at all.

I was using a 1A driver, But I guess that diode just isn't very sturdy.

Only time I killed a laser was when I dropped a chepo 532 eBay laser off a kitchen counter :/

It was a gone as soon as it hit

I agree with Paul. I've always had better luck with the Mits 500. Don't let the manufacturer rating fool you, there are diodes that can take 4x the data sheet rating and ones that can't be pushed much at all. I believe most of us builders have agreed that the Mits 500 is the better overall diode of the 2. There's quite a few diodes around that price range that are available. For smaller builds the single modes look great. I'm really glad I took the time to build them all into pens. Big power isn't the end all

Unfortunately I have a post for this thread. If you'll take a look to the left at my avatar pic you'll be viewing what cost me a nbd7875 diode. Decided I would line up some lasers for an avatar pic and loaded them up with batteries. Well, I've built a few of the attack head lasers, some with buck drivers and one with a boost driver. To make a long story short, put two batteries in the one with a boost driver, turned it on and it quickly died. Crap. Was a brand new diode with about a total burn time of 3 mins. Gonna have to label my lasers, too many to keep track of

Trying to get 700ma out of it. It went quick, didn't dim, just blinked off. Oh well, have a mits 500 on the way along with an lpc840 and some drivers

first ones--did not believe in ESD or the silly wrist band

THEN I had to solder slower-(seems these are picky picky picky about HEAT)

THEN they go and change the pins on me...why?? they look the same..:tired:

THEN i needed to make my iron ESD safe-- WTW!!??

Driver Smiver- straight to my 9 vdc-- bad move-- bunch of times until I quit blaming the diodes... :tinfoil:

what- different drivers for different lasers? and wots all this about linnerial- bucky and bumpy stuff c'mon I need BURNIN' lazer NOW..

and just why do they sell them and THEN say you have to duty/rest/duty/rest cycle??

Danny, you might want to start out at 400 mW on that LPC-840. You can increase from there, but I wouldn't expect to get anywhere near even 550mW out of it.

Was gonna be careful with that one because of what you posted earlier, thanks for the headsup. Thinking I may order 10 of the lpc826's, really am liking them. You can get 10 for less than $50 shipped.

Yeah, they are getting pretty cheap. I think it's because the LPC-836 is more popular.

There's at least two versions of the lpc826, there's the 300-400 mw which are the ones I've been ordering, then there's a 200-300 mw one

There's only one LPC-826. It's the seller's statement of what it will do that is different. In reality the LPC-836 is rated at 50 mW higher than the LPC-826.

That makes sence, there both rated at 340ma max. The ones posted at 300-400 mw are actually priced a little higher....lol

That 400 mW is probably the pulsed power maximum. The lower power is CW. Still, they are all the same, so shop price.
