Wishing all my American friends here a Happy Independence Day! :D
I know a lot of you will celebrate tonight some place where there will be fireworks. I know some of you will be the ones starting the firework displays. What other things are important there in the celebrations?
Maybe there is some discount among some of you feeling that a lot of hard earned freedoms have been taken away?
Whatever you see the day as I do hope that you enjoy it for what it is and also remember to Keep Fighting For Continued Freedom!

PS: I salute your service Men and Women who serve your country, well done!

Where the weather is good, many of us will gather at a friends place and they cook hamburgers or hot dogs outside on the grill and drink beer and get bitten by mosquitoes. In many areas its better to stay inside and drink beer and eat pizza until its time for the fireworks. In some parts of the US fireworks are illegal so people have to go someplace to see a fireworks display, but in many areas fireworks are legal and people buy their own and set them off at home or somewhere nearby as I did for many years when I was young until they were outlawed here. There are always some people injured and some houses/buildings burn down, that's why fireworks have been outlawed in some places, but I am on tribal land now and they are exempt from Washington state laws, almost an independent country, Tulalip tribes (am not native American I just live here) every year it is like a war zone, I have been hearing explosions for a few days now even though I am in the center of a RV park that is 3 miles across and no fireworks are allowed in the park. I will not be going anywhere today though, I will have a reasonably peaceful but not quiet 4th of July.

I am ashamed of what we are becoming. We will soon be like the former Soviet Union or worse and it looks like there is no stopping it. Homeland security and the militarization of the police is far out of control. We are by far the greatest threat to the peace and security of the rest of the world, but I will fight the good fight until I am gone. All great empires and civilizations eventually fall, often destroyed from within. The US is no different, we can now see the beginning of the end, those who don't see it are fools and idiots and will get what they deserve.

Thank you, my father served 21 years and I was born in a military hospital at Fairchild Air force base. He was a WW2 veteran and my sister was born in post WW2 France way back in the mid 1900's. He past away in 1992. Those were different times. I never served, they wouldn't have accepted me, they wouldn't take my brother either, he did 2 or 3 years of ROTC in high school and then tried to enlist when he turned 18 in 1970 during the Vietnam war but his eyesight was too bad, as is mine, today though they take people with bad eyesight and pay for your surgery but that didn't exist back then. I hope very much that our service Men and Women who serve our country will serve our country and not just our Glorious Leader! They should protect us from all enemies both foreign and domestic, but as most of them are young people I fear that most will simply obey orders like in Nazi Germany in WW2, and we all know what happened there.

Happy 4th of July to all of you!

BubonicCronic do you even live in the US? Your profile doesn't say. How old are you? Again your profile doesn't say. You sound like you are very young and inexperienced. You are at the very least far too naive and optimistic. Many many millions of people throughout history have said "It will never happen" including the people of the former Soviet Union, and all of eastern Europe before WW2, and what about Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and many many others. Keep telling yourself "It will never happen" then when it happens it will be too late to do anything to stop it.

I'm not wasting my time debating this further. This is honestly below my intellect level. If you want to live in fear on things that might happen then all the power to you. Good luck with that. ;)

This. I used to always be afraid of the world crumbling around me. One thing I have learned is that the more things change, the more they stay the same. There will always be cracks on the walls of society, but because it is necessary there will always be people there to fill in those cracks with cement or caulk or something. I bought a .45 because I was worried about the government collapsing any day. I bought ammo. And then I realized. Nothing was happening. The world was still as fucked up as it always was but it wasn't going to shit like I thought it was.

It is far more valuable to live your life in this moment and live well than to worry all the time.

YES, make preparations for anything if it helps your peace of mind. But don't spend your life worrying about what could be when you can enjoy what is right now.

PS - Happy Independence Day!

I and others like me will do our best to always be there to fill in those cracks with cement or caulk or something, but just in case, don't ever give up that .45 even if they try to take it away from you.

Well I am pleased to see that at least the Americans on LPF have not lost their fighting spirit and with freedom of speech comes the freedom to disagree with one another and I can see there is some valid arguments on all sides. I do think though that freedom should never be taken for granted and one Body or one Nation should always be prepared to fight to hold onto that. These days more than ever there are so many ways that freedom or parts of it can be taken from us, even being controlled by our fears or our desires can rob us of true freedom. If any of you have ever had some kind of addiction that you have conquered you will understand the loss of freedom that was created by that addiction.

I CAN QUIT ANYTIME I WANT! IM FINE!

Lol, oh and if anyone ever tries to take my .45 I'll know I didn't make a mistake by purchasing it. Would they even know I have it? I mean I paid cash for it. Lol I looked crazy when I bought it. Handed the cashier 1000 dollars in 20's. But that was a time when I didn't trust the banks or large bills so I kept everything cash. I'm telling you at what point I really did live in some fear.

It is when your rights are being violated that you need them more than ever.

Pi R Squared; I am ashamed of what we are becoming. We will soon be like the former Soviet Union or worse and it looks like there is no stopping it. As some that served even if it was the reserves these kind of comments are becoming more and more main stream! Pi R Squared I know your just stating a opinion and that is you right given to us by the Constitution. And your right to a point on what happening to the Us. Slowly our freedoms are being infringed on by a Congress that has lost its direction! They are doing what is in their best interest and not listening to the US people. They do what is best to line their pockets and not what is best for us. They give them selves raises and cut our military. Do we need a big military No but we do not need to cut is so bad if we get attacked were in the crapper! We have a socialistic president that has spent less time in office doing what he should be doing that any other president in history. He spends tax dollars like its his own piggy bank.. There is conspiracy theory's that say he is going to turn the us in to a socialist state and dissidents which will be most of the population are going to be rounded up and sent to reeducation camps.. I am proud to be a conservative. And what is happening to our country really sets my blood! boiling. I will get off my soap box!

I just said i was a conservative is all.. I did not state that i believe in all the crap that is shoveled out of main stream politics. All i said about Obama is that he is socialistic and that he spent less time doing his job than any other president and that he thinks that all his vacations should be paid for by the tax payer.. look it up even the left media will say the same thing.. I said that most politicians care about two things lining their pockets, and not paying attention to the people that put them in office. and the only other thing i said is we are slowly having our rights taken away that is all
