I would not go over 200mA. And that driver is fine. Make sure to put it into a heat sink or it wont last.

Hi, thank you for your answer. Using 200mA x ~2.5V from the driver is 500mW, wouldn't this be too high? Should i lower the voltage?

Yes, the optical power will be much lower than the electrical power to the diode.

Otherwise the diode efficiency would be 100%, and you then wouldn't need a heatsink.
