So I'm at a bit of an internal stalemate here. I'm getting some money and I wan't to buy myself a new laser. Looking to buy one from Sci-Fi Lasers since they seem to be very reputable.

Anyway though, the lasers I'm looking at are the SFGC 100 mW 532 nm, or the SCFR 200 mW 650 nm.

My stalemate arises from the fact that while the green would appear brighter than the red, the red has double the output capability of the green and I would like a laser that can do the usual burning tricks (balloon popping, lighting matches, burning electrical tape). Would there be a significant difference in the burning capability between the two or would the green be able to do all the stuff I want?

Thanks!

(Yes I'm going to get safety glasses)

No a 100mw green wouldn't do the " tricks " as well as the red. My sfcr will light a cigarette after a bit. A 100mw green could not. I have gotten a 100mw green to pop balloons etc, but the red will defiantly be more pyro-impressive. You will not have a beam from the red without assistance though . The green will produce a nice beam, but leave you wanting mo if burning is your fancy.

So all in all I have help you none what so ever :D
Good luck deciding. Hell for $100 get them both!!

But seriously be up $120 and get one of Blords 1w 445 . You'll be burning a lot more than some matches

Hmm Sci-Fi lasers has 1 Watt 445 nm for 95$.

Tempting...tempting

Only problem with Sci-Fi lasers is the darn wait for more stock to get in...

1 watt for 95$ is probably worth it though.

Will be needing some good safety glasses....

1Watt for $95? Hm......fishy, anyway I check and they said "Sold Out" :(

Goodluck with whatever you chose buddy!

there's absolutely nothing fishy about SciFi lasers...it is owned by a forum member (joker), and numerous people have bought from him, without a single negative review.

Well both are coming from overseas. They are both 501B hosts. But for 445 high power I'm a Blord fan. Not to say both aren't outstanding. I have Blords dominator and his attention to detail is immaculate. Pressed heatsink, 3 min duty cycle at 3.595w. That's insanity. Oh and the heatsink on Blords 501b is copper. I also have a 700mw 638 nm from joker in a 501b. Also a great laser. Nicely built.

For me I leave the red and green to joker, and the blue to Blord. But hey, can't go wrong. Both great builders.

Agree there. Nothing fishy. That's a good price, but not unjustified. Many members own them and love them. Along with Blords for $100.

I wish I was like StyroPyro then I could make a 3 Watt blue laser XD

3 Watts is probably too much for my first high powered laser...

Well Blord's is 120$ and I'm only getting 150$ so I need a little extra left over for safety glasses.

I would be interested to see what Blord has to offer though. Does he have a website..?

Making a three watt is no different from making a 1w. Just a diode driver and host. Everything is just more capable of handling e heat. I just made a 1300mw pen for $86

Haha story of my life!!!!!!

Bt you WILL be so happy you made that choice.

Instead of popping a balloon. You will be setting a newspaper on fire from 8 feet.

Instead of holding a match sooooooo still, you'll be able to light one through a window in half a second.

This leads me to one very important question though.

Can I safely show people a 1 watt blue laser without them wearing glasses? Like If they see the beam from a side-and-behind view kind of deal and I'm extremely careful?

I ask mainly because I mentioned my love of burning lasers to my classmates in college and they want me to show them if I ever get a powerful laser. there's just 10 of us so I can get them all to stand off to the side and behind the aperture of the laser.

Viewing the beam will be fine. It's when you have the spot pointed at a target is where it get super bright. When viewing the beam of my 3w, I don't wear glasses . So off to the side and behind will be perfectly fine. Just be very aware if that beam were to just pass over someone's vision, it will be horrible.

Oh yeah. I would probably mount it to my camera tripod or something so its nice and stable. And always pointed away from everyone.

You sound as if you have one sense. Just use your best judgment. You hear a lot of horror stories, but just be careful. Accidents happen, but they can be avoided by using your common sense. I regularly use very powerful lasers, and I have very subpar glasses. I'm just extra careful. I use them indoors and fir occasional burning. When I'm metering my lasers or burning at close range, I slap some glasses on. Even viewing the spot of a three watt isn't great for your eyes, but will not flash blind everyone in the room. So by all means, get some glasses, but they are just a back up for your common sense.

Having a small concern. Anyone have any experience with generic ebay battery chargers?
