Time to start checking some of my stuff. I'm particularly interested in the output of my new spartan and the CNI 593.5 penlaser i got from laserfanatics.

Awesome!

However, I think they stole the "tips on how to create a 593.5nm laser" right from member LED_Museum o_____o I remember his writing exactly that on his 593.5 pen review. :/

Edit: And they also stole their 473 pen summary right from LaserGlow. Lol!

Ah crud..
Does this thing not work with windows 10? The driver software only says win2000-win7. Who the heck even has a windows 7 pc anymore?

You can always try a virtual machine, use VMWare Fusion and a pirated windows 7 install. :)

Have you tried running it? I haven't really had any issues running Windows 7 compatible applications in Windows 10.

If it's not cooperating you can always try using compatibility mode for Windows 7. Just right click the program, properties, compatibility tab, check of the "run in compatibility mode" box and select the OS. :D

How well does USB passthrough work on VMWare's desktop software? It's not great on ESX/ESXi - as far as I remember you only get USB 1.0 speeds. Best I ever reached was 6MB/s. No good when you're trying to copy 3.5TB of data... Had all sorts of network performance issues (Which caused performance issues elsewhere too due to excess CPU utilization - won't get into details) on that machine running ESXi that I'd never had with VMWare before too - never did find a solution, ended up needing to move to Hyper-V :( .

Well I do have it working on an old Vista laptop of mine. So far I've done a little testing.
The Hydra I got from hap measures 2-3mw very steadily.
The Laserfanatics 593.5 measures at around 2-3mw once it stabilizes.
Got a peak of 67mw from the spartan, but I need to do more testing.

Gonna check some diode lasers which should be reliable soon like my sanwu 50mw challenger.

Edit: Checked the 50mw 515nm challenger and it goes to about 85mw after 20 seconds of climbing and then stays there indefinitely.

Hopefully I get this working on my normal comp.

Excellent. I got it working on my comp now(thanks to those who offered advice to run the program in compatibility mode). Here are the official results from my spartan. This laser seems to like running on the warmer side. This was on the 4th run I gave it with 1 minute breaks between runs(Earlier runs were more unstable and a little lower). Overall, I couldn't be happier with the laser and the service from DL. They replaced my earlier defective unit and the new unit is slightly over spec. It also has amazingly good divergence and can easily put a spot on low lying clouds.

Once you start collecting it drives you nuts not knowing their actual outputs.
I have my 473nm that peaked at 80mW out in the garage to cool down a little bit as I'm going to measure it a bit cooler to see how it reacts.we are only talking about 50F so no big change. Depending upon the results I may mess with a couple others like my 589nm.
By the way, my main computer is running xp lol. I've got other portables running Vista and windows 10 but the netbook running windows 10 fan died and I'm trying to decide what to do about it. Obviously I've been holding off a long time to replace my desktop. Going to have to soon though as lots of sites don't like my old browsers that are no longer supported. Just don't want to spend the money.

Doesn't really drive me nuts lol. I just wanted to know if I'm getting a deal, getting what I paid for, or getting ripped off sometimes. Particularly with some of my collectors wavelengths such as 589/594/561. So far I'm pleased with my 561 and 589 and OK with the 594 pen(seems a little underspec, but oh well). My 561nm peaks at 10 mw and pretty much stays there. Not bad considering I ordered a 5mw module.

Ultimately I plan on measuring most of my listed lasers with the exception of the alienlaser build. I have a feeling that one would ruin my meter...

Very nice man. Over spec looks like. Dragon is real good about that. I need to eventually get a lpm. I thought I would never care to have one but now I'm Starting to wonder the power of some of mine. I'm mostly interested in my Skylasers 80mw 405.

Did you get that WL pulsar metered by someone? I never knew it had a 140mw peak. Yeah, LPM's are a thing you will eventually want if you get really invested in this hobby. They're good for peace of mind and writing proper reviews mostly. If you get into building and selling they're extremely important.

Oh yeah I actually saw a video on YouTube of someone metering the P125 and saw that exact number, thought that was actually pretty darn cool. Yeah you're right, I really need to invest in one, I kinda would like to get one with a display mostly because I don't really use my laptop much. Arent the USB ones like you have a little cheaper?

Yeah, it seemed like a good stable test candidate. I'm very happy with this new spartan. Just hope it doesn't mysteriously die on me like the last one.
