Well, I am writing up a little experiment involving audio modulation onto a laser beam and to do so I need to replace my laser (died when my variable resistor died). It might sound complex, but with a trip to Jaycar (Australia's Radioshack) you should be able to spend about $10 and have all the equipment you need aside from a laser.

Gettng the laser is a tricky part as cost is a key to keeping the price down. This is where h t t p : / / dealextreme.com comes into it. Red laser pointers for sub $2 US and red laser modules for sub $4 (line and crosshair as well as variable focus as well!) and all with free shipping worldwide. I feel like a kid in a candy store!

I have ordered two modules for $7 AUD. Should arrive in a week or two as long as the site is legitament. If it woks, I will probably cme back for both red and green keychain lasers. Then when more money comes my way, go for something with a little extra power. They have 150mW AND 200mW green on the site, but I am not sure if it is wise to trust their quality.

Sites like these make me happy.

Edit: I would post more links and pictures but I have not posted enough yet :(

dx's stuff is legit I've ordered from there several times. Just be warned their shipping is SLOW. batteries and stuff go out pretty quick, but lasers usually take a few weeks.

there's a few other shops like it, kaidomain.com is alsmot the same store, they used to both be fifthunit.com and split, one making DX and the other kaidomain.
