that djtraximus site is fine, I believe he does have a permit, however he deals more with laser projectors and not pointers.
BTW, you can't just go and get a permit, you need a very good reason for it, and it can be up to 8 months before you even hear back from them.

They would more than likely scan the package through an x-ray and WL wouldn't bother with reshipping one order special for one person, sorry.
If your apart of a 'astronomy' club, the permit is to import ONE laser only.
I ordered a DX 50mw Torch. Customs took it. They didn't state its output power on the letter. Letter is a A4 form sheet they address to you with a brief on it then a carbon copy filled out by customs officer which states what they found. Can take a pic if anyone is really interested. Customs don't fine you, but they say that the government or other agency may.
Anyway, I have been in contact with Merry from LaserLands, and am going to purchase a 150mw Green Module from her but as to test the waters with customs i ordered a cheap 10mw green with i should receive today.

cant you get a lifelong license now? i think that you can import as many as you want with the license...

Customs does not touch modules. Period. Even if it is marked as so.
They are perfectly legal in all cases.
Pointers, however, are a different story. It's all very hit and miss. Some guy had a 5mW DX confiscated, while another guy had an Arctic slip through (marked as a portalbe laser) with the package going through unopened.
I'd still recommend you DIY. There's two links in my signature which may be of help. That's what this forum's about!

Its not as bad as everyone is saying, I think to many Aussies have been watching Boarder Security :na:
I have had several lasers (and other things) sent frrom various companies overseas, all came through fine.
In the sort room, they might set aside packages from "known" companies of dangeous goods, so use a middleman, or request stealth packaging.
Heck, at the end I might of just been lucky.
If you dont want to risk it, well DIY

Apologies for the necro post,
I purchased a 5mW red laser (atleast thats what the sticker said) and decided to try bring it through customs, from Japan.
Very foolish I know.
Walked straight through with it in my backpack.
The customs agent asked if I had a laser pointer and instinct took over and i blatantly said no.
Well here I am still shining the little thing around.
Its risky and I regret doing it.
Very bad of me :/

Wow -- the troubles of you folks down under make me glad I'm in the old US-of-A where we are free too... import... anything... oh well -- never mind. </sarc>
Seriously though -- the folks here have given you all the advice you need. Build it yourself.
I've not brewed up one yet (look for pics when I do!) but if you do your research on this site, you will know everything necessary to realize your lasing dreams. Except for the soldering iron skills, which can be learned with practice on some odds and ends from your broken TV (find an old projection TV and take the lenses out while you are at it!).
Although I'm a thorough newb here, a month or so of lurking and lasing has taught me more than 99% of the population will ever know.

Cuban's are surprisingly easy to get in the US.
In Florida there are lots of Cubans.
