It's been.... 5 or so years since i was last here, quite curious to see what sort of advances have happened. I did a little bit of snooping.. is it actually true that 4W + portable lasers are a thing?

any recommendations on some good ones?, back when i was last here, the most powerful laser i had was 500mw or so 405nm

... 7W im curious and horrified at the same time. i had a look at sanwu, what sort of beam profiles do those 445nm diodes have? wasnt able to find much information on how clean the dots/beams would be.

Dtrs website should show beam profiles. We also have 589nm handhelds and even 488nm if you got the funds

so much progress.... i'm excited, DTR's site shows a 7w 450nm diode... what sort of lenses do we have to use to deal with that sort of power

Welcome back! I'm finding myself in your same shoes. Looking for host recommendations? Doesn't seem there are as many options as there used to be?

Yea like 3 of our host machinists disappeared in like the same month. Not very many builders these days sadly.

Sadly I don't have access to the machines I used to... Would you have any extra hosts lying around? Or know anybody who might?

Should be able to get everything else from DTR

Welcome back cybob! :)
Yep, it is not surprising that 7W is a horrifying thought. Lasers have developed fast in a few years.
I see that our other returning member has also posted.

You've missed quite a lot. Over 5 years we've now got powerful direct diode green lasers(up to 1W+), Über powerful 445nm lasers(7W+), 3-4W 465nm lasers, 1W+ 638nm, and more goodies. DPSS has also gotten better, with 1W+ 532nm handhelds being a reality and >150mw 474nm handhelds. Still not much development in terms of yellow though.

Welcome back, cybob. You'll soon find out that the 7 watt diode has a huge emitter that turns the laser into a flashlight at distance. Fortunately there are new cylindrical lens pairs available to correct the one highly diverging axis. Hope you will find something to your liking.

You are lucky! :)
Mine is slightly older so may not have this. But I haven't really checked properly for multiple lines.
It is pretty incredible that multiple weak lines of ND:YAG have not only started lasing, but have also been powerful enough to go through frequency summing.
Even more amazing, is that this rare phenomena is proving not so rare in newer spartans.
