Yeah yellow diodes would be great, I just don't yet know if I wanna spend $530 on a 589 Spartan. I'll bet it's a true beauty to all that have one though.

do it you won't regret it. When I got mine for my 21st birthday a year ago I nearly crapped myself when I turned it on. It's the most natural and beatiful WL after 612 which is sunkist orange and reminds me of sunset.

I'd love to see lower dioides in 600s like 625 that would give use a neat color.
maybe we we get 540ish doides near the 543 hene.

470-490 will probably happen as remeber those 980 pointers that emit a cyan line. I have one too it's real.

I'm thinking higher powered 638s with better divergence will happen at some point like as good as a 445.

Imgine if 488s can come out and we get them to 500nm by pushing.

It wouldn't suprise me if we get 405s that eirther break 1 watt or can be pushed up to like 415nm making them much brighter.

Also don't forget 375nm might be a few years away i'd love that.

I second that regarding the 589 Spartan. Its hands down the crown jewel of my collection and is very well made. Mine does 100mW. Not to mention they're the only 589's you can buy here in the states and if they ever stop selling them to here that's it for 589's in Merica.
Plus the prices keep going up now that they know they cornered the USA market. Even CNI's PGL's 589 went from $740 to now charging $1100! If you have the cash you will not regret getting the Spartan. I may even buy a second this summer just in case.

Maybe single emitter lasers which have selectable wavelengths within a certain range... ?

You know something, you're right I can't call myself a enthusiast if I don't want a yellow :) plus I definitely couldn't imagine what they look like in person. Gotta be beautiful, of all that I would certainly love seeing 1+W 405's to 415. Definitely sucks that we're kinda limited to diodes right now. Not too many wavelengths.
So many things I need to learn. How do you push certain wavelengths to to little bit higher ones? (Example being)
405nm to 415nm?
Thanks for the help.

when you overdrive a laser the heat + current shifts it upword thats how we got the 462nm to 473. It may work with a new 405 thats a freak to start with that might be 410.410nm should give us a more visible but still 405 looking laser at a high power. Be nice if get one thats pushable 425 when a muiltmode comes out since I think they use them in laser headlights in bmw and audi.

^This. I really shouldn't have spent $399 on my 30mW 589nm Spartan, but seeing how things are progressing it's most likely only a matter of time before yellows become unavailable for us US citizens. I surely won't be making the mistake of getting rid of it like my 593.5nm CNI GLP I had in the past, this one's a keeper!

If you simply cannot dish out $399 all at once, try maybe putting it on your credit card and paying it monthly(if you have that option). I would expect 589nm prices to keep climbing, as seen on DL's website where 50mW's jumped over $100!

I had mine for a year and a lpmed it at a cold start and it hit 60mw it makes my skin warm. My gut feeling is get it why you can yet. I feel it's only a matter of time.Imagine the regret when you can't. if you want to get an idea what 589 looks like google pics of low pressure sodium lamps. they're 589nm too.

Yep, I love the color! Mine works just as advertised. When started it slowly warms to around ~45mW-50mW then slowly starts to drop when you get near the 1min duty cycle limit(which in a way is kind of neat as I know when to turn it off) and will continue to drop until you turn it off and let it rest :yh:

I would love to see some advancements in the 600nm-620nm spectrum range. We need some affordable DPSS/diode lasers there :p

I agree. I heard not long ago that CNI won't even ship <5mW pointers to the States any longer. So It seems I may have a hard time completing my collection with 593.5nm. Ill send CNI an email to confirm if this is true. has anyone else heard this?
Its times like this that I face palm myself for not buying the few 593's that have been listed in BST when I had the chance. I have a hard time paying $400+ dollars for <5mW pointers and labby's in that wl are way out of my budget so Ill have to figure something out. I'll probably see if they will ship modules only here and build it myself.
Get them while you still can. 589nm is a pretty special wavelength

I also hope 480-488nm diode prices become more affordable in the near future. That's also a beautiful color. Reminds me of aquamarine quartz.

I heard it's true when i was getting my 561 pen thats 3mw from a forum member. This was back in December.

Yep, CNI will only ship modules to US buyers now. No more pointers or handhelds, regardless of power. You can get yourself a 593.5nm GLP from LaserFanatics(I think it's called) for around $399. There's also LaserGlow which sells them at a similar price. However, I couldn't justify $599 for <5mW of 593.5nm light.

Too darn expensive!

If someone must have a yellow laser one more option that is available is a 594nm HeNe laser, but they are low power and again are so expensive that I couldn't see ever buying one.

I don't get why everyone keeps saying 589nm lasers will increase in price and/or disappear. People have posted that for years here and it hasn't come true up to now. CNI no longer shipping them directly to the US makes little difference. There are resellers and, in the worst case, you could order a custom host and buy a module.

They are increasing in price though. I was lucky enough to get my spartan from DL back when they were $420. Now the spartan 50 is $520 or something. While everything else has been going down, yellows have been going up or staying the same because a few select companies have a monopoly. CNI is the only company that makes them, and DL/laserglow/laserfanatics/Eforce are the only re-sellers I've seen.

They used to be far more expensive a few years ago. DL has probably increased the price because they were selling 30mW rated CNI lasers as 50mW in expectation of overspec lasers...

Nope.

Laserglow's Rigel were as follows in the late 2010's:

Rigel-2: $299
Rigel-5: $399

Now? Well let's see.
Rigel-2: $399
Rigel-5: $599
