Or instead of getting some piece of garbage from china/ebay get what you really need..... Lasershow Parts - Brass diode housing set for 5.6mm diodes

No crap aixiz module/ these are press fit diode holders.....

those are nice but if i wanted to spend money id get someone one here to make them out of copper or aluminum :undecided:

why doesn't aluminum have better heat-sinking abilities?

but yeah they are very nice but my scanners a budget build

A few factors come in.. One is the type of aluminum and the
oxide layer which creates a barrier if anodized.

Not a huge difference, but little things add up.


Just personal preference I guess.. If you get 6061 AL machined and unanodized
its not the same as the molded aluminum parts seen in those links..

Brass contains copper, in my books a favorite over aluminum with good reason.

ok.. ive just been searching around for cheap mounts cause i don't want to spend a bunch on heatsinks

I've been thinking of picking the second one up that you linked above.

I ran across the third one the other day and thought it looked promising, especially for a RGB lab setup. I'll probably end up trying both of them.

Brass might have lower heat conductivity, but it's still really high. There is a point of diminished return. Something that has 5000 times the thermal conductivity of copper will not offer much better performance, simply because it is not the limiting factor.

The limiting factors are the junctions between the materials, not the resistance of the material itself. Using a brass housing instead of an module+housing eliminates an entire junction, and will likely have better thermal transfer than even an aixiz with copper housing.
