Fiber optic getting hot

hello. Can anyone tell me if plastic fiber optic filaments (1.5mm. dia.) in a bent length 1" long can handle the 445nm. 1 watt laser diode without melting? Thank you.

It melted after two seconds exposure. I will try glass fibers if I can find a bundle fine enough to work. Thank you for your interest. Ed.

Dang it, yeah let me know. I would like to be able to couple my 445nm with a fiber then be able to burn at the end of the fiber if possible. An aquarium application if you will. :)

Sure! I'm working on the "host" at the moment, But as soon as I have anything on the fiber optics I'll post it here. Ed.

Any impurities on on both ends will act as a heating device. Sometime enough to melt the fiber cable.

Yes. The faces were not polished properly nor were the fibers meshed together correctly. Plus I am trying to push 9+ watts through them. Ed.

Would anyone know how to cut a glass fiber optic bundle? And is there a way to polish the ends afterward?
