Ever tried using a Master Replica Lightsaber as a Receiver/Host?

Has anyone on these forums ever tried using the high quality Master Replica Lightsaber hilt as a Host for a high powered laser module/pointer?

As a big Star Wars dork it seams like a match made in heaven for a nice display peice, so be able to pick the lightsaber off it's display box and turn it on...only to have a 100mw green laser coming out of the end :p

Of course the Artic would be great to put into a hilt as well, but the host it's already in does look pretty sweet. So it may be best just to start with custom parts.

I did a search and it does not seam any one has done this or posted about it, which has me surprised.

I'd be so careful about sticking a laser inside a host that is toy-ish. I know it might be cool and it sure can be. Safety wise if there kids around this is a recipe for disaster.
Again, after a close call with some of my now (ex) students playing tag with a 20mW green pointer be warned. All it takes is a reflection and you or someone else is in a world of hurt.
- being a starwars fan myself I'd be tempted to build a 445nm graflex version
just for fun. It's also going have a key lockout and I'll be wearing goggles when operating it.

Its hard to call it a toy when it cost's over $300 for a movie prop ;-) That fact alone would mean that even if it did not have a dangerous laser installed, would warrant being locked up and not accessible to children.

Moebius, that's basically exactly what I am looking for, though he used a FX lightsaber handle. The Master Replica 1:1 high quality hilts are made solid and built as if they where a "real" lightsaber, with all the fictional metal parts.

As I continue to read on here I'd like to develop enough experience that I could build my own DYI laser, that way I have the knowledge to do what I want with the design. There sure is enough room in the Saber as Host! I just need to be able to use the space the right way while keeping the external design intact.

Its nothing personal. We have to keep reminding people of the dangers of this diode.

It would be a light saber with a tiny thin beam coming out. I dont think it would look like a saber at all. You'd have to add a beam expander, which would bring your total up to over $1000 not including the prop.

I'm not looking to make the beam look like a lightsaber at all, though having an adjustable beam expander built into the hilt via the actuall beam length adjuster would be neat, just a bit more complex then I'm looking for. I just think a professionally done lightsaber Hilt would make a excelent host.

If a lightsaber where real, it would be a weapon due an awesome amount of respect, as it would be a very dangerous weapon, these highpower lasers should be treated with even more respect, because eventhough they do not have the cutting power that can take youre limb off, they have the blinding power to take your vision away...forever.

I just find the craftmenship put into some of these designs(light sabers) is amazing, and the 2 would go well together because of the syfy connection that people often put into place in their minds. It's not something to wave around like a they do in the YouTube movies, but something to collect and respect for its awesome power(the laser).
