OK, you say you are 14 years old---correct?

A word of caution, to the wise, before you end up in a Queensland Juvinile Detention Centre and or compromise everything your parents have worked hard to accomplish because some child you isupplied a laser to blinded somebody or decided to illuminate and aircraft.

PLease speak with a qualified attorney/lawyer in Australia who can tell you the real truth of what the laws are and the actual practices and policies of the Australian authorities actuly are in the real world of today---the brilliance of everyone on this forum, notwithstanding.

As was well said by LaZeRz " There is no way to "stop" someone from putting the blame on you if you sell them a laser. All you can do to protect yourself is make sure you don't sell a laser to someone irresponsible."

When doing something, especially in trade/for money that is not 100% above board and clearly within the law, you pay your pennies and you take your chances. In this case you take your parents chances too because you are underage.

Govern yourself accordingly.

Ive never sold a laser to a mate without a gun license also, when mates want to play with a laser of mine, im supervising, i have 2x sets of glasses for every common wavelength except IR (night vision is good enough)

14 is quite young to be playing with lasers, mostly the dangerous side, but also the financial costs, 445nm diodes can cost up to $90 alone, i know i didn't have that kind of money when i was that age.

My friends aren't right into lasers like me, they just want one because they think its cool, they are not totally in love with them like everyone on here. They only like the pen builds as well (regular black pen that takes AAA's). I was going to sell a 100mW green to one of my mates but his parents wouldnt let him keep it and then later on i broke it.... so then i have a new mate who wants a 150mW, i know 150mW is very bright and i have given him the run down on lasers and he is very mature. Also, how much profit do you think i should make off a simple aurora c6 JAD kit?

EDIT: Your posts keep popping up just before i make a new post. This mate has a gun license and he mows someone's place that is 60 acres for money.... so thats a fair bit of money. I thank you guys for showing (cant think of the word, like showing caution for me i guess?) i know there is always a risk when it comes to lasers in Australia and i trust my mates with my life and i know they will not do anything stupid with them. As for selling kits and so on over LPF i will always do background checks when someone asks for a kit, i will not sell a complete laser (unless its a labby) to anyone on here. I see you are concerned because i am 14/15 and most 14/15 year olds are very irresponsible but i am very responsible. I made a spud cannon, i own surigum (throwing spikes), shurikens, knives and a bow and i understand how dangerous these weapons are and they need to be respected as such.

As I stated above, it all depends on what heatsink, lens, battery and driver you use as well as how good you can solder.

Good point LaZeRz, its one thing thing to respect the danger of lasers, but can you put a build together that would stand up against this forum builders?

Some questions id like to know:

Do you understand how a diode laser or DPSS laser works?

Can you make heatsinks?

Can you afford it?

Ok lets say there is a black anodized heatsink, a metal frame three element glass lens, a heatsinked buck or linear driver and average soldering skills (its not that hard to put a blob of solder between the negative connection and the pill). The JAD's i would sell (if i did) wouldnt come with batteries, i would assume they would have some. So in total it would cost me about 53 bucks for one although if i did start making these a bit more they would be a few dollars cheaper.i just have to solder some wires on the driver and set the current. so do you think i should make 5 dollars off of one kit?

EDIT: Your posts popped up infront of mine again, ok a dpss laser works by using and IR diode and shining i through certain crystals to produce a colour that doesnt exist in direct diode. Can i make heatsinks? Although i do have basic machining skills i do not have a lathe :( Can i afford it? I dont quite know what you mean? afford to make the kit to sell? Yes i would be able to.

Honestly, how much profit you want to make is completely up to you. As long as it is reasonable.

So what do you think is reasonable? I want to know from people who have done this before or bought one before.

EDIT: I know that i am not gonna just do this and everything will be great, i will have a rough time trying to sell these since i dont have much rep and others will easily be able to beat my prices because they buy in bulk, but i just want to at least give it a little go and see how i do.

It seems I just found a way to waste 4 hours instead of doing my work. Oh well. :)

For your price to be reasonable it has to be able to compete with other sellers that offer similar kits. You need to do some research to determine who these sellers are and how much they sell their kits for. You might need to change parts of your kits around to allow you to compete with other sellers while making a profit.

Charging a loyalty of a few bucks for people who want to order from within Australia for whatever reason they have is perfectly fine, just be reasonable. We can not recommend you a price to sell your products for, you're going to have to do that yourself :)

No? I am just stating that I always find something to distract me from my work. Sorry if it came across that way.

Cool  and in response to fiddy's post if i understood how actual laser diodes work i do not know. It has something to do with electrons flowing from one semiconductor to another.

The brilliance of the forum members, notwithstanding, keep in mind robbing banks or murdering people is easy to do if that is what you have your heart set on doing until you get caught and have to pay the real world consequences under the law.

You are potentially risking your future and all that you parents have been able to accomplish in life if you do not get proper legal counsel and your parents, who are responsible for all of your actions until you are legally an adult, are fully informed and know exactly what you are going to be doing. Get their approval as you will be risking you parents as well. For what? A few extra dollars that could more easliy be made mowing lawns or selling blue jeans from a roadside stand?

While enthusiastic forum members will hint as how one might get around the Australian law loopholes if there are any, I am 100% certain that none of them nor does the forum owner want to seen as "contributing to the delingquency of a minor" in Australia

No matter how much you love lasers--do the right thing and get real legal advice about what you envision doing and what risks you might be running.

To simply pay your pennies and take you chances is not enough---get qualified real legal advice from a qualified member of the Australian Bar, if you intend to trade in lasers in Australia. I am sure your parents would agree.
