so basically the future is in indoor laser projectors and labbies and stuff then?
No more running about outdoors at night and pointing at the moon and cliffs and stuff.

That is pretty much what I ahve been doing for years-

after 3AM- when camping in secluded places- always during fireworks shows- and I still try to keep the time down to a min. taking breaks just in case someone sees me as a threat

well i didnt mean the 5mw ones were ok to laze them with, i just meant most of the people dumb enough to laser a aircraft would not be the ones who managed to get a 200mw green or 3 w blue hopefully they know better but there still are a few. just saying that if all the big high power laser companies went away it prob wouldnt reduce the laser crimes as most of these are from kids who got one on ebay or office depot..

I know and you are right-- a 200mW green is as bright by eye as 4000mW of 445- so side by side a pilot would see blue and green about the same brightness-- I think most go by reporting getting eluminated by seeing the color flash on the windshield or cockpit interior--and its not hard to think even with a poor aim its possible to flash a cockpit even from a mile- the human eye can see a single candle for more than a mile--

Some good news: US: FAA-reported laser incidents decline 12.8% compared to 2013 | Aviation incidents, Statistics | LaserPointerSafety.com At least it IS possible to educate the general public (at least a little). Hopefully The laser/aircraft incident rate will continue to go down.

Kinda wish you had not posted that--
it will not help us from the end of owning lasers as we know it now--

how exactly is that good news?- some may see this as a reason to NOT stop the madness-

so forgive me if i am not going to celebrate--

While incidents are down you can be sure the power is way up- more reports of blue lasers and we all know its hard to get one less than .5W
> 3000 reports per year- that nearly 10 per day
