Hello roulie007,

Most laser pens found on eBay are much more powerful than 5mW. It is actually rare to find a true 5mW laser on eBay... Most eBay laser pens seem to average from 30mW-80mW

Correct. Also, eBay green lasers are (in general) not IR filtered, so be careful if you buy a green laser from eBay... there could be more IR than green light coming out of that aperture

Nope, most of my use will be indoors :)

Greetings,

Make sure you get glasses for the wavelength of the type of laser you are getting. The wrong type for the one you get will not block the light properly. The correct wavelength will.

in that 405 nm laser IR does not exist tho but that does not mean it cant be overspec.. if your just pointing that at say a chalk board or projector screen it would be ok to not wear goggles. a while ago i got one of these 405nm ebay ones. its less bright than geeen but it has cool effects with glow in the dark object and can actually have several different dot colors depending on what yo point it at 405nm bluray & 445nm blue laser glow in the dark poster - YouTube

It is not advisable to use a pointer over 5 mW in a classroom or presentation environment.

Just because it isn't as bright, doesn't mean it's not as powerful. On the contrary most 5 mW ebay greens average around 30 mW, however most 5 mW 405's will exceed 80 mW. I metered mine at 134 mW...Be careful.

true ebay can be very inconsistant with the power of the laser, which is why they may be dangerous . also one factor i believe for the inconsistency of the power is that you cant sell lasers of over 5mw on ebay normally.. one way to check is to email the buyer and ask what is the true power of this laser? is it ir filtered ? often they will write back and tell you that yes it is in fact 75mw green or 50mw green ect.. but you can never be sure unless you have access to a power meter

these goggles will work for a 405nm http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...89&creative=9325&linkCode=ur2&tag=wootoy07-20
