I'm still relatively new to high power lasers but i've seen lasers on DX and they are really cheap. You can get a 50mw green for 20$. They cost over 100$ on dragonlasers. Why is there such a big difference ? I know DX isnt IR filtered but will the beam look better ? Will the dot be brighter ? Why pay 5x the price ?

The dx will be of lower overall quality. Meaning a worse beam, lower true green power, no customer service and build quality usually doesn't last a year. IMO it's worth the extra cash for a dragonlasers.

The 50mw from DX MIGHT hit 50mw... but a good bit of that power is going to be infrared...... meaning it's not visible but is still dangerous. It might do 30mw of green if your lucky.

If really want 50mw of IR filtered green, go with DL or one of the other reputable vendors.

You can get a 100mw focusable green from o-like for about $80 + shipping I think, and it's going to be a lot more well built than anything DX sells.

That's exactly what I was wondering, thanks for the replies. DX has 200mw for 50$ though, but if it's like you say then it's only good for burning.

lol the 200mw is unlikely to even hit 100mw... INCLUDING the IR...

You get what you pay for with cheap lasers.....

If it was really possible to get near spec lasers for that price, you'd see them in everybody's sig's here.

well I do have a 200mw red that i got for 27$. I can't measure it but im pretty sure it does what a 200mw is supposed to do. I can cut electrical tape, i go through a cd case in about 5-10 seconds.

Red is not green though. You can buy 300mw red diodes for $5.

Ok so let me rephrase what I said earlier.

You get what you pay for when you buy cheap DPSS lasers.

Keep in mind, most (cheap) reds use a very different technology than greens. Reds often use a direct diode that emits red light, where the greens are DPSS lasers, pumped by an IR diode.

So, simpler and more common technology equals a lower price.
