DVD burner diode lifespan?

Hi i was going to make a dvd laser burner soon but i have read up that the diode dies within 2 months is this true? if not how long does it roughly last? Thanx

it depends on how much current you feed it. If you feed it too much, it will die shortly. If you feed it the correct amount, I'm sure the rated lifespan of the diode is around 5,000 hours at minimum.

not if you're using a current regulated driver that can handle to voltage that the batteries are putting out :)

I'm kind of interested too cause my 283mW MXDL died a little after months I'd say..
