I bought a laser today and there appears to be a thick light around the thin dot now. It was not doing that when I first got it. What can be causing this?

Sounds like the lens is dirty. Qtip and a little tiny bit of isopropyl should be enough.

Another, less likely possibly is that your laser has adjustable focus and you've inadvertently brought the focal point closer to the lens?

I tried a q-tip but not with alcohol on it. I'll try that tonight thanks.
Could it get dirty under the lense? Where a qtip would help?

I use optics cleaner on my very expensive scopes. Its safe for all surfaces, glass (coated and uncoated), plastic, camera lenses, rifle scopes and binoculars. It works great, leaves no residue, lint or fiber behind. It doesn't have to be this brand, but they make some high end optics.
